Engineering Explained joining the Lucid Lemon Club

What is so ENRAGING is that his problems are so minor compared to a lot of us stuck currently paying for lawyers and waiting for BBB arbitration, but all HE had to do was nicely ask Lucid and they bought his car back no problem. Its such a tacky double standard.

I like his channel, but this one is slightly annoying for two reasons; One is that Lucid is struggling so much, and two, he is exploiting Lucid's pains for his own gain. This sort of video series is extremely damaging to the brand.
Shouldn't your annoyance be at Lucid then? Someone pointing out their own experience with a company that is borderline refusing to fix their problems is solely on the company. He has given them several chances and Lucid just continues to drop the ball. This should damage the brand. They really need a wake up call. They've had several and still continue to let software plague their vehicles. As a prospective owners, I am glad for these videos. Lucid does not need more people buying cars and then lemoning them right back.

The software, almost above anything, will end up killing this brand. And that would be painfully sad if it ever comes to that. I'm with EE. On paper, Lucid makes the best cars. If I were to buy a vehicle based off what it promises to do, I'd buy the Air and Gravity 10/10. But reality works very differently. No one wants an unpredictable and buggy car. No one to blame but Lucid here. They are truly their own worst enemy.

A couple, of things:

1. Some of his issues were significant (the roll thing for one); some were insignificant. His first video detailed issues with his phone and profile selection which were, eh, they should work but really they are dumb features anyway (imo)
2. How bad at decision making does Lucid need to be to sell this guy that particular car? If I managed Lucid I think I would have made damn sure I found one that was damn near perfect. They then gave him a Gravity with issues. I definitely would not have given him anything to test after I bought back his Air

The ongoing issues with marginally useful geegaws may well cause Lucid to go out of business. Obviously, the best thing to do would be to get these features right the first time, or in a reasonable period of time. That said, they would have been WAY WAY better off just not offering those features.

I really, really hope they don't bring out the new models and try to include the crap they can't do right and just make a great riding, handling, driving vehicle with out the software lard

Mine has thankfully been pretty much bug free, and the ride, handling, and acceleration are freaking awesome- there is really nothing like it, but that may soon change.

It was not lemoned. They just bought the car back.

And to be fair, his problems sounded kind of insane, so it was definitely a lemon.
Most of the problems were minor, no big deals. Apple CarPlay- always use wired, wireless glitches in every car I used it. The roll, he must have pressed it by mistake. Agree door locks are an issue, but it worked a bit later.

He just seems to want a “ perfect car”…..he should go buy a Toyota.

But Lucid should never have given him another vehicle. He is one of those who complains about every minor thing.

All minor issues, EE is just making a BIG DEAL out of it. Look at his first video- cup holders need a little of force to take out the bottle? Sorry, I prefer that so my bottle doesn’t move to tip. He complains about issues that are not really big issues.

Yes, software needs improvement, but the only software driven cars that has nailed it down is Tesla.

He seems really entitled. He should go buy a Toyota, would be a prefect car.

I have never really understood the <insert brand here> defense force. It's a car, not your identity.

I hated this so much when I had a Tesla that I stopped engaging with the community.
FWIW, I agree. By the same token, I have never understood the <insert brand here> hate force, either, regardless of the brand.

It’s mildly more understandable with Elon because so many people detest his politics and personality, but that’s somewhat of a unique case.

Someone pointing out their own experience with a company that is borderline refusing to fix their problems is solely on the company.
“Borderline refusing” is not at all what he experienced.

He has given them several chances and Lucid just continues to drop the ball.
That is not the case. He even states that he doesn’t think it has been enough time for Lucid to fix the issues. Effort and desire are not the problem.

I agree with the rest of your post, but Lucid isn’t sticking their head in the sand either, and I think it’s unfair to imply that they are. They have been very responsive to this and interacted with Jason regularly.

When it becomes more about the person than the car, my best advice is to ignore the person.

But it is a big deal. Maybe not to you, but to someone else. Their money spent is the same as yours.

Also why do we try to hand wave these issues? If you have a feature it should work. Plain and simple.

The suggestions and comments you are making just excuse that. Also...must have pressed by mistake? Come on, man.

It's okay to say "I have not experienced this issue." If someone is using way too much hyperbole, it is okay to call that out. I think EE had been more than patient and the buyback is fair. I also think it is fair for him to explain the issues he experienced in a public forum.

This is exactly the kind of blind brand loyalty that hurts companies long term. Wireless CarPlay glitches? Minor issue. Sure. Different AC temps side to side? Annoying but fixable. But a car unexpectedly rolling because the hold feature disengaged and rear doors intermittently not opening are not “wanting a perfect car.” Those are legitimate safety and quality concerns. But no, because you know all, he must’ve of switched it off himself. His Lucid could not of possibly had a software glitch. Preposterous!
If someone asked you:
“Would you buy a $90k+ luxury car where the rear doors sometimes don’t open and your preselected features may come undone?” The answer from basically every normal person is no.
It’s bizarre how some people will defend a company so hard they stop applying common sense. Criticism is not hatred. Pointing out problems is how products improve. You can like Lucid and still acknowledge issues. Those two things are not mutually exclusive.

Indeed. Also I would say that many of us are probably more risk averse than the general public and have a higher tolerance for such things.

However, as sales increase and newer more affordable units are released the ownership base will expand to those that have close to zero or absolutely no tolerance for such things.

I cannot fathom why they sent him a Gravity that was not perfectly functioning.

fire everybody
Maybe they thought they did. Releasing a poorly function vehicle to anyone is a problem. Yes every OEM releases a few, but Lucid's percentage after 5 years is on the high side.

Still disagree, not a big deal. Anyone expecting Rivian or Lucid to be software glitch free are smoking weed. He wants a perfect car, nothing wrong in that. We all do. But you need to set your expectations properly.

Most of his issues are …meh….cup holders complaint in his first video- what a joke! That made me ignore his reviews about cars. He should stick to engineering.

I bet you he didn’t use wired Apple CarPlay. Wireless is glitchy in every car I used it. He didn’t even mention if it was wireless. Not completely open about it. Yeah, doors are glitchy but they worked….we all know Lucid has issues with doors unlocking. Not like he was stranded for hours. Rear climate could have been easily sent to Lucid to fix. But he had to make an entitled video. Boo hoo…..look at my Lucid…..it’s glitchy…..I need to tell the whole world.

The fact that he bought a software driven car and expected it to be perfect is ludicrous. We all want it to be perfect……

I’m not saying that his issues aren’t real or unimportant. But he’s a content creator on You Tube. He makes money off of sharing his experiences through content that drives subscriptions and ad revenue. His livelihood depends on driving engagement through positive and negative experiences. And positive reviews don’t draw nearly the traffic of negative ones. There may be aspects of your car that you find annoying. But you’re not making a living off of sharing those experiences with others.

If I had an established YouTube channel where I have discussed cars and related technology and I just happened to buy a Lucid and have the issues he is having...

...I would have no issue posting videos about it.

It would have nothing to do with making money or existing status as a YouTuber (other than already having a channel. I wouldn't create one just for that). He bought the car. His experience is his own and he is free to communicate that experience to others.

Some of you act like there is some conflict or the fact that his status as YouTuber has swayed his choice to discuss this in the way his is, or that such a status should preclude you from doing so. The videos are a product of his experience. It's a weird take to say otherwise.

Yikes. This is the kind of video that can kill a motor company. Just ask MKBHD and Fisker

Fisker was already dead. MKBHD just grabbed one of the handles on the coffin.
