Driving Awareness issues after update?

So I had all the driver awareness stuff turned off before getting 3.6.0 installed, and those options are still off, but my hands free driving works just fine. For anyone having issues with it, have you tried turning the settings off?

Thanks for the suggestion, but no that doesn't allow hands free to work for me. It does remove the annoying orange icon about driver awareness being unavailable but still no hands free.

I have to say, the little that I’ve been able to use hands-free does seem nice. It seems like about 20% of the time after I have been away from the car, the driver awareness seems to work initially like normal and so I can use hands-free driving if I’m on the highway. However, within 5-10 minutes it always stops working, and so only if I am somewhere where I am getting on the highway almost immediately can I actually use the hands-free driving for the first few minutes on the highway. Every single time though within 5 to 10 minutes it stops working and I’m back to the old driver system hands-on. I still think it's got to be a software issue, but maybe it is a hardware issue with the driver camera overheating and shutting itself down or something after a few minutes?

Is it possible you shift your hands in a way that gets in the way of the eye sensor?

Does that explain why the diver monitoring system is off on the cockpit display?

If your hand is in the way of sensor it will alert you, not decide to completely deactivate.

If the eye sensor/camera gets blocked the little warning light will appear (the eyeball with the line through it). If the eye sensor (distracted driver sensor) isnt' working then you can't use hands free dream drive

No, you are wrong.
The eyeball with the line through it on the display with off written underneath that sign means the monitoring is turned off. Meaning it is non-functional.

If the sensor/camera is blocked its always a notification. The monitoring system won't turn off.

This will cause the hands free to disengage. Agreed. But on a perfectly functional system.
Here we are talking about monitoring systemy completely deactivated for no reason.

By your logic if I keep the hand on the wheel below it should the monitoring system should turn back on and the cockpit will not display it. It ain't happening here. So yes you are wrong.

Yes, yes. That is what I meant. Hands-free will disengage. This light is always on with mine when I drive. But not for my husband under his profile. What does this mean. (I have checked our settings and they are the same.)

Ignoring hands free for now, with the DDA (distracted driver alert) on, are you saying that DDA, itself, stops working? Are you getting a notification when you look away, and the notification disappears when you look at the road, even when hands-free refuses to work?

The only alerts I get are the alerts to keep my hands on the wheel (if I don't have either hand at 9/3:00 positions). I've noticed this a couple of times that seemed to depend on the angle of the sun coming in through the windshield in the morning. Maybe reflecting off my sunglasses.

its as if it means to give me the alert to put my hands back on the wheel, but is instead showing the look at the road alert by accident. When this happens it remains for the rest of that drive. Probably about 10-20% of the time.

Has anyone with this issue on 3.6.0 gotten the upgrade to 3.6.3 to see if their issue is resolved? I'm really hoping it is, but I still haven't gotten 3.6.3 pushed to me to test for myself.

I’m leaning towards a hardware problem with the driver awareness camera and would schedule service. I believe there was a post from someone that driver awareness & Dream Drive started working after having the camera replaced. It would be interesting to see if 3.6.3 makes a difference, though.

The hands-on-wheel alert is the steering wheel capacitive sensor and seems to be working. You shouldn’t be limited to the 3:00/9:00 positions, though. I sometimes hold the bottom of the steering wheel.

Yeah, I have a service appt scheduled in a few weeks so will add this to that appt if 3.6.3 doesn't fix it. It was mentioned earlier in this thread that someone had it fixed after the camera was replaced on 3.6.0, so maybe it is hardware. I think I'm just being hopeful that it's software only.

Regarding the hands-on-wheel alerts, I seem to get the alert anytime my hands not at the 3 or 9 positions....is it truly supposed to be sensed everywhere? If so I should get that looked at as well. I often have one hand on the bottom, and always get the "keep hands on the wheel" alert after a few seconds when using DDPro (hands-on version). Even at the 3/9 positions for me, I have noticed that I need to be reaching around the wheel and have my fingers somewhere almost behind where the buttons are in order for the alert to go away. Maybe my steering wheels capacitive sensors are also messed up...Would love to hear what others notice about hands on. I searched the forum and didn't see anyone else make a mention of needing to keep the hands in such a specific position but I've just been driving like this for the last 5k miles just thinking that's how it's supposed to be.

Definitely mention the capacitive sensor problem. It sounds like a problem with either the entire steering unit or the wiring bundle.

I’m able to lightly hold the bottom of the steering wheel with one hand (or any other position).

There's absolutely no shortage of steering wheel replacement posts on here for some sort of capacitive sensor problem including my own GGT which as we sit here and post is in service having it done along with other stuff
