Doug DeMuro's Lucid Gravity Review

I stopped listening to him….annoying, bigoted and no real information that will make you decide to buy the vehicle or not

At the Quail in Monterey he seemed pretty infatuated with the Rivian people. Likely his love of the vehicle/company clouds his judgment and causes him not to judge the Gravity objectively.

It’s unfortunate because I think the Gravity kicks Rivians ass. And would have been nice to see that.

Especially if they end up bringing a Gravity Cross to market. Would be a good rival to the Rivian.

Give the guy a break. He had mostly great things to say about the Gravity and some of his nit picks were either due to lack of knowledge (center consul access and lack of 112v plugs) or due to personal preference (driving position and view over steering wheel.). Nothing he said is going to chase any potential buyers off and if I was Lucid management, I would call it a win.

Oh, and it is not a Minivan. It is a sport wagon.

I, too, have an R1S quad and an X and would 100% rate my Gravity much higher except for off-roading. The X would be a distant third. Sometimes, these folks look for issues - especially when consensus is so positive. Doug needs clicks like every other “reviewer”…

This just adds to my thinking that Doug, and most online reviewers, are buffoons. How on Earth could he enjoy the ride in an R1S?

Also, know the car if you’re going to review it. Missing things like storage, etc is crazy.

Totally! I felt like this was one of his lazier reviews. Lost track of how many times he referred to it as a minivan, even after he went to great pains to say it wasn’t as tall as one, and that it had better driving dynamics (duh). I was hoping he’d move on to “sports wagon,” since that’s how my insurer (State Farm) refers to it, but nope. Minivan It’s almost as if he has an axe to grind with Lucid.

Lost track of how many times he referred to it as a minivan, even after he went to great pains to say it wasn’t as tall as one, and that it had better driving dynamics (duh). I'd give him a break if he weren't a car reviewer with 5M subscribers. He has a higher burden and thus should do simple research. Honestly, any one of the Gravity owners on here would have been happy to show him the ropes. Sans credit, I'm sure.

Agreed. One of my favorite cars was the Mercedes E63 wagon but it was not quite big enough. I compromised with a GLE63 SUV that has great power, luxury and utility but is not what I would call a canyon carver (center of gravity too high.).

Active listening means filtering with some basic critical thinking so that you can decide if his observations and opinions are highlighting things that matter to you. The gimmicky "Doug Score" is the most useless part of his reviews. It gives some minivan vibes but if YOU like how it looks, then isn't that all that matters?

I think the Gravity is the best vehicle in its class for storage, but….. that video with the boxes was a rigged experiment. You can shape the boxes in such a way that they fit perfectly in one car but leave awkward voids in another. You could have made any car win that comparison by shaping and sizing the boxes however you needed to.

I have personally fit all of the cardboard from an entire bedroom set and dining room set in the gravity. It's positively cavernous.

I agree it was a fair review. I think part of the response is just that he's done much better and more thorough reviews before, and this did seem a little phoned in.

I do like Doug, and I like watching his videos, though like with Kyle, I tend to watch them at 1.5x speed, heh.

As I was watching the review, I noticed that there's a customization module in the driver's gauge screen that I no longer see in my Gravity. It's around 17:44 in the video, a module labeled "Customize your driving experience":

Does anybody know/remember whether that's a one-time setup thing? I didn't know if/how I'd be able to customize the modules on the gauge part of the screens, it might be interesting to see what else is available, if anything.

Coming, as I understand it; that 'customize your driving experience' was a bug and shouldn't have shown up this time; that's why when he taps it nothing happens except it disappearing.

Doug used to be a much more humble reviewer but since his acquisition he's gotten much more egotistical and clearly does less detailed reviews.
On top of the factual misses regarding the Gravity "bento boxes" being configurable, he also mistakenly referred to it as an Rivian.
He's getting sloppy.

I’ve never cared much for social media people reviewing cars… they are almost always influencing viewers with their own opinions: I don’t like the steering wheel/cladding/seats… or pointing out the obvious: 20” wheels/full width tail lights/panoramic roof…
To me, a review needs to be unbiased, and allow the viewer to get enough information to make the decision to visit a dealer and test drive for themselves and come to their own conclusions.
Minivan or SUV? What does the reviewer care anyway, they are not the ones potentially buying the vehicle.
Also, reviewers typically keep the car for a few days only, and any ‘quirks’ like a steering wheel that is not the usual circle will always stand out, but for those who buy a car with it, familiarity will make a unusually shaped steering wheel a non issue.
But many potential buyers will baulk at the idea of a steering wheel not being a circle because of the hype drummed up by the reviewer…
Incorrect information or lack of knowledge about a car’s features from a reviewer is sad, and amateur. There’s a ton of resources available so do your research and provide factual, relevant information!
Social media influencers are entitled to their own opinions… true, everyone is, but by using their platforms to express their personal opinions, they are taking the opportunity away from others to make up their own.
Am I too harsh? Maybe, but social media influencers have a tremendous impact on viewers and their decisions, be it about a car, airline, restaurant, or whatever, and I feel that reviewers need to think about their impact on their audience, not just getting more viewers.
