Dangerous situation with frunk open

I have a,2026vLucid Air Pure. The other day, I accidentally opened the frunk (by single press & hold key fob or from front console - not sure which). On the Air Pure, opening the frunk doesn't actually open it, it just releases the latch but you have to manually go to the frunk and lift it open.

Anyway, I pulled out of a parking space and into traffic and suddenly the car lost power. I was left sitting there with traffic coming up behind me. Luckily I managed to coast into a turning lane. Once stopped I noticed the frunk warning, got out and push it down to close it.

This is a dangerous situation as I could easily have been rear- ended. The frunk warning was just a graphic on the screen and a soft beeping. The warning should be much more on IOUs or the car should refuse to move - not let me pull out and then decide to shut down.

Has anyone else experienced this situation?

So, are you saying the car warned you visually and audibly the frunk was unlocked when you started moving?
 
I didn't notice any warnings when I pulled out of parking lot. When I lost power and pulled over, I started looking to see what happened and saw the graphic on the screen indicating frunk was unlocked. Not sure if there was an audible warning, but if so, it wasn't loud.

Will try to reproduce this situation in a safe area and observe more closely.

yes, except my frunk wasn't even open it just thought it was. Has to be fixed by service.

Different issue; that was misaligned latches. In this case, his frunk was actually open. Not a service issue.

OP do you have the new software? Someone else said it had caused them to do a half open situation too. Borski was right this is a different issue than the one I had seen before
 
Why does an open trunk completely cut power instead of telling you to pull over?
 
Because the OP didn't see the warning and pulled out anyway. If the car didn't stop, he would likely be looking at big bucks repair. The only other option i see is to restrict speed to 5mph or so instead of stopping.
 
I have a pure. When I went to have my snow tires mounted on rims I had not closed the frunk completely. Like @richardshirley1@ I drove away from the store. No warning (that I noticed) until I was on the main road (50 yards of travel). As I accelerated, power was cut the warnings (visual and audible) came and I was bloking traffic. A quick open and closing of the frunk solved it.

What would the big buck repair be if he just slowed down, pulled over when safe, and closed it? Shutting it all down with no power no matter where you are is way more dangerous than a trunk that isn’t latched and might not even be fully open but just barely unlatched.
 
From my experience, if the frunk is not closed and latched, the top speed of the car is limited to 12 mph. Did yours accelerate past 12 mph and then 'cut power'? Or did it just stop accelerating at 12 mph and you perceived that as cutting power?

And for full disclosure, my car warned me on the dash also. I'm not sure if it actually said it was limited to 12 mph on the dash or not.
 
As I said I did not see nor hear a warning before accelerating away from the tire store. The car drove normally through the lot and onto the side street. When I turned onto the main road it accelerated normally until it didn't, practically stopping in the street. Then I noticed both the audible and dash warnings. Were they on before, maybe but I doubt it.

I admit this was my fault. Which is why I never brought it up online.

Better if the car did not allow me to go into gear when starting out or had a large dead spot in initial pedal travel so it would show something was obviously wrong. I had closed the frunk, which closed flush but obviously had not latched.

I should rephrase that. Either way is a cut in power. Rapid acceleration to a cap of 12 mph would definitely be the same sensation. I apologize for the original wording

If the frunk flies open, which it can, that would be big bucks for your hood and glass. This has happened when unwitting tow truck drivers sat on the fob or pushed buttons too much, etc.

Yes, but as I read it, he was not aware that the frunk was unlatched. Once he got up to some speed, the hood would likely have blown open and back, resulting in substantial damage to the car... hence the big bucks.
 
I admit my mistake - I incorrectly read it as trunk every time, not frunk, and realize how much more serious that would be obviously. My bad.

With the upcoming "Transparent Frunk" display, you would be able to see through the frunk and keep driving. I can't believe they haven't rolled the option out yet - you'd think for a $100K+ car...

Ok that does imply it might have some low speed limit that allows you to move the car (ie like in a driveway) before killing and warning.
 
I wanted to refresh my memory so I cracked my frunk open and put the car in drive. This is a pretty obvious/prominent warning. Did you not get this?
