I have gone through lots of posts here comparing 20 way PurLuxe Leather Alternative to "real leather". I am considering a lease of a Touring and there are 2 cars which are within $22 / month of each other. Cosmos Silver Metallic with the real leather and 14 way ventilated seats (which also comes with the configurable ambient lighting) or a Fathom Blue Metallic with the "fake" leather but 20 way ventilated seats which I understand just has a white light for the ambient lighting (the blue one is $22 more a month). Otherwise both are similarly equipped on 19" (which is what I want so I can try and get through the winter with the all seasons on the 19")

I totally get that colour is personal etc etc, but I welcome any thoughts and comments. Ventilated seats are a must for me and configurable ambient lighting sounds cool, but is "gimmicky"? I have seen a Fathom Blue in the showroom and thought it was beautiful - have only seen the Silver pictures. Have not had a chance to try out the massage seats.

Is the headliner / dash and door cards materially different between the 2?

Thx in advance.

The ambient lighting isn't gimmicky in the Air at all, it's more of a minimal nighttime ambiance rather than a light show like in e.g. some BMWs. I like it, but I wouldn't care at all if I didn't have it.
Lucid's massage seats are great, you should try them out if possible. But again, at least in my opinion, not a make-or-break feature if you're generally just in the car for a short commute. I think you'd be very happy to have them if you're road tripping regularly, or if you have an hour+ commute.

Does either seat choice have massage? I was skeptical about it at first, but found seat massage to be very useful for reducing driver fatigue on long road trips.

Thx for the replies. The choice is for a Silver Metallic with leather and 14 way ventilated (no massage) and adjustable ambient lighting OR a Fathom Blue with PureLux (fake Leather) and 20 way ventilated WITH massage but only white non adjustable ambient lighting (for $22 more per month)

I have the adjustable ambient lighting on my car...honestly I couldn't care less about it. I would completely discount that feature if I were you. Its something I think I checked out a little bit when I first got the car and have never bothered with since.

I have Purlux 14 way.... PurLux is fine and I am not missing real leather. What I wish I had was the brigher and changeable lights that the leather pakcage provides. I also wish I had the massage seatsm they are definitely not a gimmick as compared to BMW.

Thx. Although really it is “massage” over “real leather”;? Fathom blue over cosmos silver metallic ?

I haven't lived with PurLuxe, but it is really soft and nice to touch. Both colors are great.

I had a similar decision. I went with the Tahoe interior which I really wanted with 14 way seats. I’m super happy with it. I LOVE massaging seats and wish I had them, but wouldn’t give up the premium interior for them.

This is almost purely subjective, but IMHO fathom blue is the best color. That being said, I ended up with a grey car because I wanted other options more and I took what was available. I'd avoid a color I didn't like, but IMHO silver will look fine, even if it doesn't really stand out much.

YMMV of course. For me? Yeah. The purluxe is fine; it’s not as nice as leather but it feels pretty damn great and close. It’s a minor loss for me.

For me, SSP, DDP, and massage are the features I wouldn’t give up. I’d feel differently if the massage seats sucked, but they don’t. :)

Your desires may be different! I do way prefer Fathom Blue over silver but you could always wrap it.

Or wait. You could also always wait (unless you can’t, of course, lol)

Thx for all the replies. Very helpful. I am thinking of a short term lease so wrapping it likely not a viable option. A few people have said that while the fake leather may not be an option”nice” as leather it may actually be softer and the 20 way power adjustments could “make up for it”. I have also read that while the cabin is different (door cards, dash) between purluxe and leather it is also not really a big “downgrade”

Hands down, Fathom Blue with 20-way PurLuxe massage seats! PurLuxe is super soft, comfy and looks brand new in mine after 5 months and 7k+ miles. Don’t forget the additional seat adjustments you get with the 20-way, like side bolsters and headrests — way more beneficial to your overall driving comfort than subtle ambient lighting differences and real leather.

I was going to respond, but this sums up my opinion to a tee.

When I was shopping for my car the sales associate showed me both the real leather and the PurLuxe. Both he and I agreed the PurLuxe felt softer and at least for me, it 'seated' more comfortably. I went with Fathom Blue, but again that's purely subjective.

The Fathom Blue and Cosmos Silver are very close in color. In certain lighting conditions, you can barely say which the car is untless they are sitting next to each other. I'd go with the better seats. Having the extra adjustments really adds comfort. I don't use the massage often, but sometimes it's the best thing in the world to have.
