Not necessarily as much in gross costs. Volume definitely smooths out net costs. In Lucid's case it is too much labor per unit and too much materials per unit. Volume will help some, but they are just spending too much to build a single car. They recently shut down a third shift to reduce labor costs, but they will have to improve labor efficiency to build the same volume of cars with less shift time. I do not think they have solved their supply chain and materials issues yet.
I think it costs Lucid a lot more to build a single car than Ferrari, and Ferraris are hand-made with exotic and expensive materials. TBH's Lucids roughly $200K cost just to build a car is a bit mind blowing, like it makes me wonder how that is even possible. It is stunning to think that they are wasting something like $150K on every car they build relative to other automakers, even low-volume automakers.
