Not to deflect from the hilarity that this thread has become (thanks @HC_79 ), but how many are aware of WHY a battery is called a battery?

Thank Benjamin Franklin. In the midst of all of his experimentation with electricity he built an energy storage device containing an array of Leyden jars. He noted the visual similarity to a row of cannons, aka a battery. And there you have it.
