Has anyone else experienced this ‘black area’ when using turning cameras? It’s on both sides and I’ve cleaned my cameras. They are symmetrical so it’s not physical.

I don’t recall that on mine but I’m not in the car right now. If it didn’t used to be that way or isn’t in other Gravities, they need to be realigned. It is, indeed, physical.

Mine have been like that since one of the lasts OTA updates when they improved the quality and they wide angle. I think it's called vignette based on what people here explained.

If they aligned the cameras before an OTA increased the viewing angle, some people may have cameras that were fine before the view angle change, but the alignment now isn't good enough. Just spitballing ideas.

Maybe the - ‘they made it wider’. I took a screenshot from my Halo using the same camera but no artifacts. Something definitely changed - I do not remember this being an issue. If it is just a change in the angle that’s a good

I also noticed this since the update when they increased camera resolution. Thought it must have been there all along but not visible when it was lower res and there might have been a fade effect towards that corner as well. My Live View doesn't show it either. So, what's the verdict? That there are two modes: regular and wide. And Live View uses regular mode and blinkers use wide angle which catch the corner?

This has been widely reported after a prior OTA update 1-2 months ago which dramatically improved the camera quality, but changed the angle/wide lense effect.

Hopefully they slightly tweak the angle/zoom next OTA. I'm not sure if service centers are realigning cameras for this, I kinda of doubt it.

Much appreciated all. I was away when the big update hit and this was my first drive. Honestly I really wanted a sanity check … thanks for confirming the change and cause.

Right, the theory was/is that they had applied some sort of crop/filter to the raw camera footage that wouldn't show the corners here, but the net effect was a crappier, lower-quality image that was also choppier (since they'd have to run the filter in real-time in software).

That was the general theme of the 3.4.x updates: they actually simplified some of the animations, controls, etc. for performance across the board. As pretty as some of the UI/UX was, it didn't matter when people couldn't reliably navigate to screens or suffer low camera quality even if the surrounding UI looks good.

I'll take a higher quality image (matching Tesla now) of the side mirror cameras, but agree that this change made it look like they didn't design the camera to match the mirror housing correctly.

My guess is a physical change to the mirror housing, ie add a spacer, would give it the clearance or they need a very creative way to warp the view. For now, we have to live with these compromises (similar to the infamous back seat squeak), and I hope some solution is offered to customers.
