I have to admit, thise are some badass parlor tricks. It’s amazing what a little intellectual property theft will get you these days.

Rivian can do it, but they took the feature out for safety concern. I personally think RJ Scaringe is a prudent CEO. He is about environmental message and not flashy in headlines. His low profile and humility creep up much sales for Rivian. I have high respect for him thinking long term taking risk for building RAN, empathize what customers want like Ford Jim Farley. Average Joe usually root for humble underdogs in our society.

I do love Rivian(and the ford) ceos, but I respectfully have to disagree with what you said specifically about tank turn. For some reason, I feel like rivian just could not get tank turn to work consistently or properly on EVERY type of surface, its kind of like the Plaid+ and Elon saying "520 miles of range is unnecessary" after he couldn't achieve it to me at least.

Also, am I going blind or for crab crawl and tank turn the wheels arent even turning? Crab crawl also looks like its going at a 90 degree angle.. wouldn't that burn the tires?

Crab crawl or slide is not turning wheels but just relying on torque vectoring of 4 different wheels. Yes, they can be consuming to tires wear, but how often you wish you can slide park instead of parallel park?

Perhaps because Rivian is phasing out many high end options in the subsequent models to achieve profitability. Rivian no longer wish to outsourced quad-motor down the road. There parlor tricks require quad-motor torque vectoring EV tech.

Rivian is aiming to offer only dual-motor AWD which they in-house designed and manufactured just as they took out high-end Meridian speakers to replace with its own in-house manufactured speakers in gradual vertical integration. Too many 12V outlets, they are deleting one in frunk.

All these making my first 1000 batch R1S very limited quad-motor on the road. My R1S VIN is # 000010xx even lower than my Air 000017xx. I highly doubt the ultra-frugal Tesla will offer quad-motor in CyberTruck.

Rivian produces higher priced R1S ($5k more than R1T) a year later than R1T after worked out the kinks. According to RJ, R1S actually cost less to make than R1T because it is 14.7” less wheelbase.

Never met Ford CEO Jim Farley, but from this clip, he clearly has shown to me his business leadership in empathy to customers’ frustration and willingness to adapt its EV division business model. He actually drove F150 Lightning road trip to many EA stations to talk to customers and learn feedbacks. That is like 5-stars commander-in-chief out on the field putting effort doing ambassador work.
