BMW Earth competition

Yep…… They’ve not only missed the boat with the R2, now this will be out well before Earth also.

Not going to lie, having bought BMWs for the last 30 years, I'm interested in this car.

You all are nuts if you think this competes with the Mid-size. It's going to be built in Germany, Tariffed and cost more than a Gravity.

First model projected to cost $60k. I believe this is less than GT and close to where the EGT will be priced. Not produced in Germany. Produced in EU (Hungary).

We also don't know what rate (currently 15% for EU) or even if tariffs will be in effect in 2026.

There still seem to be a lot of missing details. But from what I've read, this vehicle seems to be more of an Earth competitor than a Gravity competitor. I'm reading between the lines, but I think this will have a ~400 EPA range for the RWD drive version, and less for AWD and higher performance versions. Judging from the pictures, it maintains the traditional ICE long hood, but without managing a significant frunk (2 cubic feet), and doesn't achieve the packaging efficiency of the Gravity. If the Earth takes the same efficient packaging approach, I'd expect it to blow away the iX3 in usable cargo capacity and passenger space.

It does have the charging port on the right side, which I believe to be the right place as curb-side chargers slowly start to be more common. But that could be just for the European version, and maybe they'll move it for the USA version.

That 60K is probably a base model with 0 options. Which is still higher than the mid-size target....

We will see come summer. By the time mid-size is released option costs and availability for the iX3 will be well known.

By the time the mid-sized is released, the iX3 will be a common sight on the street.

BMW is definitely stepping up its game and glad to see the release of the first Klasse designed BMW with a lot Klasse BMW’s on the way. Competition keeps making everyone better. Love BMW, so glad to see it.

I'm very glad to see the midsized SUV EV bar raised from its current level of 300 miles EPA range and 250kW peak charging.

I don't believe it competes with the Gravity, because at this point it was hinted that it will be a much smaller size SUV. For those who want a small SUV, they would not consider a Gravity to begin with. BMW is also coming out with a small sedan based on the same architecture. That will definitely compete with the Earth and this neaue klasse sedan coming out in early 2027 is a car that I also will be looking at.

I take issue with that. I'd be thrilled if the Gravity was the iX3's 188 inches instead of 198 inches. I'm planning to buy a Gravity anyway, because it checks so many other boxes, and there doesn't seem to be a competitive mid-sized SUV. I'm buying a 5 seat model, and the interior cargo volume is so good, I expect I'd still be happy even with 10" less length. In return, I'd get something that's easier to handle and park in tight urban environments. I'm switching away from a Toyota Highlander, which is 192.5" long.

Same here for the same reasons. There are several un-competitive SUVs out there - Polestar 3 with only 300 mile range; Macan EV with 275 mile range, expensive and cramped; neue iX3 only late 2026; Cayenne EV is large and expensive.
