I know this has been discussed a handful of times but I have yet to find a solid answer!

What does the “energy limited due to cold battery” in my app mean?

This is a permanent thing now that winter has started. The moment I park the car whether in the garage while plugged or outside not plugged, I get this message.

Even after remote climate has been running prior to departure I still get this message. Lucid clearly states that remote climate preconditions the battery.

Those are two different instructions. “Use remote climate to warm your cabin” *and* “start battery preconditioning at the same time.”

I agree it’s confusing and easy to misread, but remote climate does not start battery preconditioning.

You can't precondition the battery if the car is plugged in. I assume there is not a workaround? Or does the fact that it's plugged in mean that the battery is at a good temp? (I'm doubting so, as I still see that same warning even when plugged in - usually also I'm plugged in from the night before but not at that moment actually charging.)

Really?

You're probably right but it clearly states the following:

When it’s freezing outside, use Remote Climate in the Lucid mobile app to warm your cabin and start battery preconditioning at the same time.

The key here is: "use remote climate to warm you cabin and start battery preconditioning at the same time"

Right. It’s ambiguous. You are reading it as it saying “use remote climate to… do both these things.” I am suggesting an alternate, and also valid, reading of “use remote climate the do this thing, and also, please go ahead and start preconditioning at the same time”

That's fair and to your point rather ambiguous! I'll try both and try to identify any differences in efficiency when I drive the first few miles which would be indicative of a preconditioned/warmer battery.

That's pretty cold. Are you parked outside? I usually start the last 10% of my charge an hour before I leave. This morning that didn't work out so well as I got the limited regen message after I'd been charging for a little more than an hour and had my heat / heated steering wheel / heated seat running for about 15 minutes.

Parked in my garage. Insulated but not heated. I'm in Canada so that's a pretty important detail lol. Toronto has fairly similar climate to most North-eastern US locations so not an outlier.

My basic takeaway is the following.

Aside from higher charging efficiency, battery preconditioning also increases efficiency at the onset of your drive in cold climate.

Since you cannot precondition the battery while plugged in the outcome is the following:

Precondition the battery before your drive while unplugged= better efficiency and lower state of charge at the onset of your drive.
Don't precondition the battery before your drive= lower efficiency and higher state of charge at the onset of your drive.

A flawed logic in my humble opinion. Not sure which will result in a better battery SOC/efficiency outcome objectively. Maybe I'm just trying to hard to optimize my range in the winter.

Speaking as someone who only has driveway parking, and who lives in the cold(ish) mountains in the snow, I do think it's a flaw in Lucid's design that you cannot precondition the battery while plugged in to L2 charging. This seems like a good use for Lucid's new software feedback email address.

Pretty important detail indeed. We spent some time in Toronto during the summer (actually we stayed in Mississagua and took the train / uber to and from Toronto).

Agreed. I think the scheduled charging feature in general is a miss (although it may work for those utilizing TOU rates). In a previous ev I could set a departure time, plug in and the car would figure out the rest. The battery would be warm and the cabin would be at temp ready to go. If I didn't plug in then the car would use battery power to precondition & warm / cool the cabin.

Batteries are like people = they do their best in a specific temperature range. They don't like to be cold or hot. If it's uncomfortably hot or cold for you, it's likely your Lucid is uncomfortable. Be kind = set a daily charge limit and plug in.
