Auto Unlock

Pushing in the drivers side rear door handle helps my air wake up faster for some reason.
Me too. During the few times the car doesn't auto-unlock (FOB only no PAAK), pressing the driver's door handle wakes up the car right away.

My handle goes in but it doesn’t wake up the car or unlock or anything.
If it doesn’t unlock, it’s not recognizing a key. Going in for a second or two is normal, but then it should unlock and wake up. That time it is “in” it is searching for a key of some kind (fob, mobile, card)

This happens to me almost anytime I am not at home. I walk up to the car. And I stand by the drivers door waiting for the door handles to extend. And I wait. And the thought occurs to me each time a bystander must be thinking I am trying to break into the car. The unlock time varies anywhere from 5 seconds to 15 seconds.
But for some weird reasons, my car unlocks right away when I am in my garage. In fact, the unlock works miraclously EVERY time I am NOT intending on entering the car. :)

this is exactly my experience.

I'm pretty sure that it is taking the same amount of time to unlock. It's just that you are not standing there impatiently waiting for it to open, so it seems quicker. Happens to me all the time when I go to retrieve my rowing scull.

As for the 'interminable' wait for auto-open goes, someone at Lucid once told me the following, and it seems plausible. They said that the Air (I don't know about the Gravity) routinely goes into a much deeper sleep than other EVs, and that this is the main reason why there is not much phantom drain when your Air languishes in the garage unused. One of the trade-offs of that deep sleep is that, in the case of a simple interface point like auto-open, the car has to first wake fully BEFORE it can activate the requested action, and it's the wake time that causes the lag. That sounds reasonable to me, and would also explain why auto-close works so beautifully while auto-open works so badly.

If that is the case, it seems to me that a reasonable solution would be for users to be able to opt for more of a twilight sleep schedule. Say, for example, that while leaving everything else unchanged, your settings said to transition the car to twilight sleep every day a little while before you usually go to the car in the morning, and to stay that way until a little while after you usually park and leave the car in the evening. I suspect many would sign up for the resulting range hit. (There would be more elegance to what I'm saying in the actual settings, including turning the settings off temporarily, and maybe a two hour 'deeper' sleep window during the day, but you get the idea.)

Beyond the auto-open function, I imagine that something like this would be needed if the long-promised sentry mode ever sees the light of day.

BTW, I posted this once before, and I cannot for the life of me find it. I wonder where it went.

We should be able to turn off the deep sleep. Just add the option?

I imagine the complication might be having to develop an interim state somewhere between fast asleep and wide awake. If one already exists, then adding a scheduling feature should be pretty straightforward.

My Tesla took several hours to go into deep sleep, so if I went to the store it would unlock right away as I approached. Software 2.8.9 improved iPhone unlock on the Air significantly, but there's still often a lag, except for when I don't want it to unlock, then it unlocks and locks and unlocks (basically starts flapping its wings) as if it's trying to get my attention while I take out the garbage or something else non-Air related in the garage.

This is what I've experienced as well. I think the trick is to mentally convince yourself and the car that you aren't wanting to enter the car, then the doors will unlock every time.

Kind of like Arthur Dent flying by learning to throw himself at the ground and miss...

Exactly my experience as well. The car unlocks no problem at all in the garage. But outside, in the rain and cold, forget it.
And further, it doesn’t seem to have a problem locking. That it does in one second. For example, it (finally) unlocks, I open the back door, toss my bag in, close the door, go to open the drivers door and the car locks before I even take a step. Hello? I’m literally standing right there! So annoying!

I honestly don’t think this is the issue. If I approach my car with my fob in my pocket the car wakes very quickly. Sometimes my phone is in my pocket and the car wakes up as soon as I walk in range. Yet when I initiate this from my phone it’s a 30 second process. I don’t want to guess what the problem is, but it seems there is a way for the car to wake up quickly.

We live in a world where I have seen people complain their car wakes up too aggressively in the garage when they are near AND AT THE SAME TIME the app takes way too long to wake up the car. This can’t be a deep sleep thing with the Fob performance. I believe we can combine these two experiences!

I wish Lucid would own up, accept there is an issue, tell us what the issue is and fix the damn thing! It’s just KEYS!

I’m waiting for the onslaught of comments telling me not to go on and on about keys.

But it’s just opening and getting in the car, they are not reinventing the wheel. This has been figured out decades ago. The first car ever made where car waits to unlock when you are standing next to it.

Bring it on!

The key (fob) works fine. I use it every day reliably and quickly. The App is too slow.

Yeah the app is kinda useless. I don’t understand why they won’t fix it.

We have a Tesla as well that is parked next to the Air in the garage. The Tesla locking and unlocking is 100% spot on with NO DRAMA. No motors on the mirrors buzzing while unlocking and the manual door handles (we have a MY) work beautifully. Lucid should copy and paste this from Tesla.

Also, the Tesla mirrors unfold when the door actually opens. There is no reason for the mirrors to open when you are simply unlocking the car.

Lastly, I like the walk away lock alert that the Tesla issues. That way, I know the locks have engaged and the car is secure. In a Lucid, one has to look back while walking how the mirrors are parked as that is the only way to know if the locks have engaged or not. And most times, the angle of the car is such you can't tell the mirror position.
