And here we go. Very right to call them out on this but they really don't need this kind of press. And as stated in the article, they are watching these forums and will quote experiences shared or videos about it. I'm not blaming them and I'm sure the gentleman who wrote the article will likely see this thread too. Lucid has got to figure this out ASAP as it shouldn't even be an issue...
 

Notch EV shows the issue on his new Gravity as well. If they can't get it right by the time my car is ready for production (lunar titanium with HUD), I'm 100% going to cancel. Between the choice of an okay EV with harsh ride quality and a really nice EV ride but with terrible bugs to the point where I can't start it when I want to, I would opt for the okay EV every time. I want Lucid to succeed so badly but they're really shooting themselves in the brand with this kind of rollout.

I agree, the press is quite right to call them out for the key issues. To me, it's also baffling that Lucid's PR department thought it was a good idea to give the Gravity to a reviewer while the key issues persist. First impressions matter, and InsideEV's article is a predictable outcome from handing over the Gravity at this point.

Might not be such a big deal anymore when they rollout Apple Wallet Car Key, and that is suppose to be coming when they finally get certifcation for apple carplay for the Gravity.

BTW my 2024 X5M has constantly issues with the keys too. Every other day I stand next to the car and pull the handle for 5-10seconds until it unlocks. On other days its just instant, according to BMW, thats just how it is.

Works fine on my air, though I wish it wouldn't relock so quickly, when I walk by it in my garage it locks and unlocks 3 times. Needs to extend the unlock cooldown period, though I think they do it so the car can do its little light show. I imagine my Teslas do the same thing, but you don't know because they don't indicate when they lock.

The fact that they aren't the same technology at all, and PaaK will use Apple Digital Key Plus, etc.

Also, my Air's fob and mobile key have been flawless for well over two years. I occasionally have to move or tap my phone to wake it up (because BLE, not UWB) but otherwise works without issue.
 
Obviously it would be nice to have the Apple Phone Key. But in terms of fobs, the Air Fob is works fine. I never wait to get in my car.

Amen! I have used work-arounds to make peace with my 2025 Air Pure's locking/unlocking system, but the fact remains that my wife's old Lexus, or my 2010 Infiniti, or the Econocar I rent at the airport works much better.

Yeah Mobile key has been embarrassing for me for 2+ years. I just default to my key card in my wallet majority of the time. By the time I get in the car, it picks up my mobile key and doesn't ask for pin to drive.

I personally would not buy a mediocre EV just because this inconvenience that has workarounds.

I have had the same experience here with my Air.
 
This article makes me sad for Lucid because this car is so awesome to drive. We have had our Gravity for over 2 months and only one minor, persistent issue with it (which isn't keyfob related). Have used the keycard exactly once.

Since getting the Gravity, I also find myself less motivated to constantly visit this forum and as a result, I'm less likely to post about the awesome parts of owning a Gravity. And there are so many - the speed, the comfort, the range, simply unmatched in a single vehicle!

Kudos to those who are posting the fun parts to balance out the perception (and tbc I'm not trying to dismiss the complaints - I feel for the owners who are experiencing issues and they definitely deserve to get those issues fixed as well).
 
The primary buyer for the Air were techy early adopter types and predominately male. They were much more likely to be willing to work through issues in return for having the coolest new thing on the block.

The Gravity target audience is a lot more mainstream (non-techy) women, aka soccer moms. The first time or second time at most that soccer mom gets stranded somewhere with the kids in tow, she will come home and demand that hubby sell this piece of crap and then tell all her friends to hold on to their Lexus SUVs. Most women (and a lot of men) care a lot more about a car reliably opening and starting than they do about driving dynamics. If Lucid does not have the key issue TOTALLY resolved by early 2026, it could ruin Lucid.
 
It feels like all OEMs have overcomplicated the situation with too many scenarios and combinations, 3 forms of keys, electronic signals and what not....same for door handles moving.

Agreed on this. I almost exclusively use the mobile key (with little to no issue), to the point where I almost forgot to bring a keycard for the valet on my last business trip. I haven't used a keyfob in over 2 years.
 
These are the exact same issues we are having. Originally both key cards worked, now they can only be used to unlock the Gravity. The fob stopped working entirely the other day until I pulled out the battery and reinserted it. We also have to restart the car every day. The car is usually dead (no screens working) when attempting the use the vehicle in the afternoons/evening. A restart resolves the issue.

Adding the ability to start the vehicle from the app or the ability to use your phone as a key would definitely give us other options when the key cards and fob don't work. Now we always wonder if we will get stranded somewhere.

Same here, neither my wife nor I have used our Air key fob once since taking delivery in June. It's been all phone key with no glitches. Having said that, I took the Gravity in for service on the center console yesterday and they gave me an Air for a loaner. I'm using the fob for that and again no issues always unlocked when I approach and off we go. I know others experiences have been different but in my limited time with the Gravity it doesn't seem like the solution is far off. The problems have all been nuisances rather than debilitating.

Bob: On your loaner AIR, my guess is that you had auto-unlock turned on. In my case that would trigger many times a day as I work in my garage workshop. It would also eat the FOB battery in a month or two.
