I keep wifi off. It does not handle smooth transitioning between wifi and cellular, so you will have a period of a few moments to minutes as you drive away from your home signal where your sirius and navigation will go haywire.

Do you turn on wifi when a new s/w update is being released? Then turn it off after download/install success?

Nope. Just use cellular. Didn't think it makes things faster to be in WiFi although lucid recommends being on wifi. The issue for me is that the OTA can come over a multi week long period so it's more hassle to toggle back and forth.
