Lucid Air Grand Touring
Hey everyone,

We just took delivery of our Lucid Air Grand Touring less than a week ago. We originally test drove and ordered it at a showroom, and our sales advisor was excellent—super helpful and professional.

That said, we were really disappointed to discover that our car doesn’t include the ambient lighting feature. During the sales process, we were told the car we test drove was nearly identical to the one we ordered, with the only difference being that we opted for the Mojave PurLuxe leather alternative instead of extended leather.

What no one mentioned—and what isn’t clearly stated anywhere on the Lucid website or configurator—is that ambient lighting apparently only comes with the extended leather option. For a nearly fully loaded build that cost close to $125,000, that feels like a major omission. We had assumed (reasonably, I think) that a feature like ambient lighting would be standard or at least clearly disclosed if excluded.

This has been frustrating, especially as new Lucid customers leasing the vehicle for three years and potentially planning to purchase it afterward. It just feels like a transparency issue.

I’m planning to stop by the Lucid store soon to talk to someone in person, but before I do, I wanted to ask this community:

Has anyone else run into this?

Was there any mention of ambient lighting being tied to extended leather in your experience?

Do you think there’s any shot at a retrofit or solution?

Would really appreciate any insights or advice. Thanks in advance!

Seems like a pretty trivial feature for a 5300# vehicle that handles like a dream and does 0-60 in 3 seconds and … etc. having said that - does seem kinda odd that it would only come with certain interior options? Have seen it mentioned before, u could prolly search and get details! Good luck on retro-fit or other correction

Must’ve changed in the 2025 model but does seem strange. I have a 2023 GT with Mojave Purluxe and ambient lighting is included.

You’ve got the glass roof right? I think the ambient lighting is tied to the glass roof not the seats.

Maybe I expressed myself wrong. I have light but can't change the colors and I don't think there is light in the doors and at the feet. It's very subtle and hardly noticeable in the center of the glass roof

It's come up before recently. Either here or on reddit, i can't remember.
It's really frustrating and makes no sense. I can't imagine it's cost-savings becuase now they have to stock and install two different types of LED strips? That can't be cheaper than just installing colored LEDs in every car. And the software is already in there.
So do they do it to encouarge people to upgrade to the nicer leathers? That doesn't make sense because they don't even mention it anywhere.
I suspect they had a bunch of old white LED strips laying around and needed to decide how to go through them in 2025 and decided to pair it with the purluxe interior, then failed to communicate that to their sales people. It seems business->factory->sales->customer communication is a weak point for the company.

I was considering a purluxe car because it was on the lot, but when i researched the purluxe interior, this lighting situation came up and i passed and chose to do a special order. It's tough because it's easy to say "who cares it's colored lights", but I like stuff like that. If I were in your position, I would tell them you want to trade the car for one with a different interior because nobody told you it wouldn't have the lights, then stick to your guns. You may feel petty, but it's a $100k car and you should get what you want.

Couldn’t agree more

This came up in my buying process - I had a Grand Touring on order, but the very next day decided to change to a Touring, for about $30K less. I just did not need the range and HP of the GT for my use, and I liked the back seat footwell in the Touring a great deal more (not having knees awkwardly high). When I figured out I could get the 20-way massage seats in the Touring (a must have for me) but only in the Mojave Purluxe interior that was my tipping factor. There was a thread or 2 I found on here that talked about the lack of colored ambient lighting so I assumed it would not be there, which was the case. I do like ambient lighting but I am OK without it - I would like a bit brighter footwell/door jamb lights, but in a way the lack of distraction and increased driver focus at night is good as well. Also the ambient lighting even in the GT is pretty weak sauce. As a side effect I actually prefer the increased use of the canvas/fabric on the dash/door cards in the myself and the reduced use of Alcantara below the headliner (cleaning/maintenance). Also my experience with vegan leathers in my Tesla was stellar from a wear/tear/cleaning perspective - it just held up so well - I really, really hate bolster/seat wrinkles that seem inevitable in leather very quickly.

Either way, I do believe Lucid could do a better job of clearly explaining the interior differences with the Mojave Purluxe - it was really hard for me to figure out - I had to scour many interior photos.
