I agree it saves bmw on data cost. Also of note, the ‘updates’ bmw pushes out are so minuscule in impact and almost never gives us new features. I don’t think I’ve noticed the lift from any update BMW ever has sent our m50.So coming from a BMW iX, I think BMW had a better system for OTA updates.
The phone app itself would download the update onto your phone over wifi.
Once, in the car the app would upload the update to the car.
It was way more reliable and faster. Probably also saved BMW in cell data cost.
