Aero 20" wheels all season EV tire recommendation?

Good afternoon all,

I am in the process of getting 20" Aero wheels for my GT, but the recommedned size tires seems to only come in summer performance tires.

Any recommendations on tire sizes, EV or non EV tires, tire brand?

265/40/20 and 245/40/20 is the recommended tire sizes, can i or should I go wider so i have more options?

Thoughts?

Fwiw - I just with mich pilot sport as a cpl weeks ago and quite happy with the decision! I got 30k miles on the original ev version so hoping I get a lot of mikes outta these!

Are they all seasons? how is the road noise?
I had the Mich. AS4 on my plaid and they were very noisy.
 
Honestly haven’t noticed - that was my concern as well but I’m typically listening to tidal and really haven’t noticed. Yeah - they’re all seasons
 
I just got the OE Pilot Sport EV tires (20”) on my 2023 Pure AWD replaced with Pilot Sport 4S tires today and I have to say I’m underwhelmed with the latter. The PS4Ss have substantially more noticeable road noise (low frequency thrum) when driving at freeway speeds on the concrete freeways in San Francisco, and they also seem to flex in somewhat unexpected ways on uneven road surfaces (again at freeway speeds). The PSEVs were, in hindsight, excellent in each of those areas, and I didn’t fully appreciate this until I swapped them out. On the flip side, durability was a major issue (my front driver’s side tire actually had chunks come out of it with the belts starting to be visible at about 18,000 miles). The PS4S do seem better built.

So I’m now wondering whether I should go back and swap out the brand new PS4Ss for PSEVs. (I did this at America’s Tire, with the certificates and everything, but have never thought of returning tires before today). Would love to hear experiences from forum members on the PSEVs vs other tires, and any advice you may have. Thanks in advance.
 
An update on this for anyone interested. I’m fresh off of replacing my 20” Michelin Pilot Sport EVs (OEs) with a new set of the exact same tires earlier today, with a weeklong detour on Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires as mentioned in my last post here. The original PSEVs lasted me about 17k miles (or about 85% of their rated 20k miles) on pretty rough SF streets and freeways, which I’m quite happy with. The PS4S were good, with arguably better wet weather grip (had a rainy day here yesterday) but quite bouncy and noticeably noisier than the PSEVs. Two takeaways for me:

1. The OEM 20”s are truly fantastically tuned to the Air’s chassis: quiet, grippy, and beautifully balanced. Kudos to the Lucid engineers and to Michelin. I needed a week on the otherwise highly rated PS4Ss to realize this. Even if a tire meets the load requirements and all of the technical specifications, and is even from the same top-tier manufacturer, that does not imply that it is the best tire for the job.

2. The 20”s in general are underrated for the Air. Most people talk about the 19”s for comfort and the 21”s for sportiness. I don’t disagree with either of those characterizations. But in terms of a balance between the two, the 20”s with the PSEVs are hard to beat.

When I asked Dave Lickfold about tires for the Gravity, he was very clear that Lucid does a lot of vehicle specific tuning in collaboration with the tire vendors, and not using the OEM tires causes you to miss out on all the hard work that goes into designing the OEM tires. Given the quality of Lucid's vehicle engineering, I'm inclined to trust in their tire choices. I'd only move to a non OEM tire if I had a use-case that just obviously isn't met by the OEM tire choices.

That doesn't do us much good though come winter when our OEM summer performance tires are all but useless in some climates.

Or is there a 20" OEM all season tire I could use (Texas) or a winter/snow tire someone in far colder climes can use?

As far as I know, there are presently no OEM all season or OEM winter tires for the 20"s on the Air. If I lived in a colder climate, I would likely have gotten the Michelin Pilot Sport AS4s as a viable non-OEM all-season alternative.
