Greetings.

I just picked up a 2024 Air Touring. Is is possible to add Dream Drive Pro to the vehicle after purchase?
 
There is additional hardware required for DDPro so you cannot upgrade a 2024 Air after purchase.
 
I realize it has hardware, but that doesn't automatically mean it's not possible to have it installed at the dealer after the fact.

I believe they use different wiring harnesses, which would be hard to replace. There was a time when Lucid sold Airs with a DDP trial. So in this case, they were able to enable/disable it through software.

To answer your question directly: Lucid has never offered this to date. And they have never expressed any desire to offer it at any point publicly. I've also never heard any executive or employee of Lucid mention that they were even thinking about it.

I would put the likelihood of this ever happening at 0.000001%.

I would expect that part of the issue would be the allocation of resources at service centers as well. While theoretically hardware could be installed it would likely be an involved and time consuming process. And I suspect there would be little uptake amongst owners who don't have the existing hardware to enable DD Pro but would be willing to spend thousands to have it installed.

I booked an appointment to have the CCCv2 upgrade installed over the weekend. The earliest slot that I could get is 6 weeks out. The service centers obviously have more than enough work to keep them busy.

If a vehicle has the hardware but the owner didn't opt for the $10,000 or $6,750 option to "turn it on" can it be turned on later?

There is no such option. Either buy the vehicle with DDPro or not. DDPro2 (Gravity) works well today, within it's limits, to reduce commute and road trip fatigue. Lane centering + ACC is smooth. There is no ping-ponging and it adjusts to stop & go traffic well. Works wherever there are clear lane markings, including city streets, though I haven't tested on the smaller streets yet.

The limitations: auto lane change is hit or miss. Must disengage/intervene for curves requiring speed reduction (it won't slow down), merge scenarios, and unclear lane markings or choices (off ramps, lane splits). I use DDPro2 80% of the time on my commutes.

For the Gravity DDPro2, I have faith that Lucid will deliver level 2++ and possibly level 3 with the nVidia partnership and platform. Lucid alone couldn't have done, but nVidia already has a working system.

The hardware was only included on some 2022 and early 2023 models. It definitely does not apply to a 2024 model.

The 2022 -23 model situation is what I was referring to. I thought there were vehicles built in those years that had the hardware to allow for short promotional purposes. I was wondering if a second owner of one of those vehicles could turn it on. Purely curiosity on my end. The car I'm buying has DDP. But before settling on it I was looking at some Touring trim cars. Some said they had DDP and some didn't and the sellers (dealers) were never clear on whether they had the hardware or not.

On the few 2022/2023 models that have all of the hardware, a second owner could pay the upgrade free and get DDPro.

Exactly my experience as well. Once you become familiar with what it does and its limitations (curves, splits, etc), it actually works very well IMO. Find it smoother than some other brands.

Yes. But only if the vehicle was equipped with all the hardware at the time it was manufactured. I believe that is limited to the early builds before they changed their manufacturing lines

I'm not sure if 2024 builds have the hardware or not. So I can't say. I'd assume not but that's just a guess.
 
Almost 100% positive the experiment was long over by the time 2024 models shipped.

It’s really only 2023 models that ever had the hardware without the feature being present.

Late 2022 Airs were all shipped as model year 2023. All Touring and Pure models are 2023 and later, despite some being delivered late 2022 (like mine).

All GTs shipped as 2022 models had DDPro included as standard. And all Dream Editions, obviously, have DDPro.

So we’re talking about a small batch of GT, Touring, and Pure cars shipped as 2023 models.
