I drive the route from LA to Marin County often. There are plenty of DCFC along the way. Kettleman City recommened by @HC_79 has the most chargers, and you can get a meal there. Besides Kettlemen City, there are plenty of DCFC charging stations along I-5. Take it easy. You won'tget stranded. Californians are spoiled when it comes to EV charging.

Here to say Kettleman City is THE stop. The restaurant (Chalios) is also open 24 hours and those burritos hit different.

If they are doing the drive on the weekend I would strongly recommend getting a NACS adaptor. Hopefully they don't need the adapter but it will eliviate charging worries.

I think Kettlemen City has plenty of CCS and NASC chargers.
