A Bit of Perspective From a Long-ish Term Owner

I still wouldn't buy any other car, at any price.
Same, I went out to look in used car market after lease end, and boy-oh-boy.. found most cars to be boring and lacking. Now back in 2022 AGT with a smile every time I get in :)

I was doing a little reminiscing today. I have now had the car for two years and five months and it's at 33,000 miles. As is true with any Internet forum, there tends to be a lot of complaining and negativity here. I would like to address some of the things where I've seen major improvement. This is not to say there isn't room for additional growth and improvement, but the car I'm driving today is significantly better than the car I originally bought. So next time you're about to write a post complaining about something… Consider these:
  1. Boot up time: used to be close to a minute between opening the door and seeing the displays come on. Now it is instant.
  2. Blindspot cameras used to appear after about two blinks. Now they pop right on, and lately seem to be quite clear.
  3. 3-D camera system used to take a while to turn on after starting up the car. Now it is immediate.
  4. Surreal Sound Pro sounded OK to me, now it sounds fantastic.
  5. Fit and finish was a problem with the 2022 model your cars… I had quite a few service visits just to replace trim and line things up. Now the cars are coming off the line with a much greater degree of precision and perfection.
  6. CarPlay didn't exist when I got the car. Now it works very well. (Android users: maybe someday)
  7. There were many software bugs. Now there are very few.
  8. We didn't used to have a logo reset. We had to literally park the car, lock it with the valet key, and wait a while and then get back in and hope things were better. I don't reset the car much, but the logo reset is quite a bit easier.
  9. For a while, there was a huge Air logo taking up 1/3 of the dashboard. Now, the next navigation instruction and media information appear there as they should.
  10. We saw a lot of blowouts on the 21 inch Pirelli tires, although I personally didn't have any. Unbelievable amount of forum traffic about this. Now it seems the tires themselves have been improved and I haven't seen many since.
  11. The glass roof plus bright sun in San Diego made the car very hot, now we have these lovely mesh panels that work well for me and negated the need for an expensive tinting job on the roof.
  12. The car didn't originally have automatic dimming high beam headlights. Now it does.
  13. Drive Drive Pro didn't do much (Highway Assist/Drive Assist didn't exist). Now it does an amazing amount, and hands off driving will be coming.
  14. There wasn't a frunk button on the left panel so I literally had to get in the car and sit down to open the frunk. Now there is one.
  15. The HomeLink menu wouldn't pop on when the reverse camera was on. This caused a HUGE amount of forum traffic and lengthy threads. Now, it does.
  16. There was no Lane Change Assist. Lane Departure Protection did not offer all of the options it has now.
  17. There was no Curb Rash Alert. I thought this was silly when it was introduced, but I now depend on it when parallel parking.
  18. The car didn't have satellite radio at all.
  19. Schedule charging didn't exist.
  20. There was no way to turn the pilot panel off. Now it's just a double-tap away.
  21. HERE navigation was a complete disaster. I won't say it's perfect, and I really don't use it much, but others are reporting that it is significantly improved.
  22. Easy entry didn't exist.
  23. Max AC setting didn't exist.
  24. There was no way to deactivate passive locking/unlocking.
  25. The side mirror didn't tilt down when reversing, now I use that all the time.
  26. RangeXChange didn't exist. I have actually used that once to help a person who is in need.
  27. There was no Creature Comfort or Keep mode. It's actually nice to turn this on if you will be somewhere for just an hour or two on a hot day.
  28. There was no notice that regen was limited.
I'm sure you can think of others that I forgot, but I've never had a car that has been this much improved and transformed during my ownership. I'm thrilled about that. Cheers to Lucid, keep it coming!
Sweet Bloody Mary"...tends to be a lot of complaining and negativity here..." You've said it Bobby. Apparently there have been innumerable people who have been driving Rolls-Royces, Koenigsegg Jesko Absoluts, Mercedes-Maybach S 600 Pullmans, blah, blah blah. GIVE ME A BREAK! Please, please, please show me one...any ONE car that tops a Lucid Air Pure for around $70,000. You can't. Wah, waah, my fob doesn't rock me to sleep at night. My seats aren't as comfortable as my mother's womb, my tires aren't as cheap and performant as my imagination. Here's a thought, you geniuses...don't buy a Lucid! Sell it and buy an Accord or Ram pickup. No one needs your whining. Add something positive or leave.

If Bobby’s point is that Lucid is currently the best car in the world, then I agree. But if no one knows it, so what? Here in Michigan hundreds of thousands of new cars were sold last year; only a handful were Lucids. Where’s the advertising? To see/drive one a Michigan resident has to go to Chicago! There is no used car trade-in program. This is situation that can and should be solved. It can be done without dealers.

Many competitors now offer the items in Bobby’s list. What continues to be Lucid’s advantage is fast charging and range. What happens when solid state batteries arrive and everyone has 500-600-700 miles of range and really rapid recharging? Personally I wouldn’t buy a Chinese car but they seem to be there. QuantumScape now has a production line producing solid state batteries that are being road tested by VW.

Long story short, I love my Lucid and hope the company survives. I also own Lucid stock. So I also hope the company survives and thrives. But if marketing doesn’t improve immediately, I can see the stock going to zero.

Bobby's recent post is comprehensive and instructive. OTA's have been amazing over the four years I have had an AGT. In a post a while ago I mused that Lucid will evolve without the every three or four year intervals between 911 updates without the additional cost and remain competitive and fresh. We have experienced it. Those with patience have been rewarded and will continue to be rewarded with improvements. Unfortunately for me I have lost my most recent 2025 AGT to a rear end total and will order a Gravity GT that I am confident will evolve similarly.

There is nothing on the market that comes close to Lucid in features and value as my recent survey of new offerings has confirmed. An over eager Porsche sales person asked me what she needed to do to get me to buy the Macan GTS EV, which she offered at a very significant discount from list. From an objective perspective its shortfalls to the Gravity GT are meaningful although it has solid dynamic qualities. Subjectively, its design to me is tired with no passion, as other Porsches definitely have. This from a former multiple Porsche model owner for years. FWIW, I drove a new rental MB S580 450 miles back from my recent accident location and found it inferior to my AGT in every respect. I understand why people gravitate to MB, Audi and BMW large models, but they are missing a lot to avoid the AGT. The journalistic narrative has not been helpful. As a kid I was told not to believe everything I read and only half of what I see.

Many people got good Lucid cars and they love it. Many others including me, Engineering explained etc. got bad Lucid's and our experience is based on that. It can be hard to look at it from other people's perspective. There is no question that the car is very good to drive, but with all due respect, a luxury car in 2022 should have had most if not all the features that you have mentioned in that list. All of these have existed in many other cars and had been perfected over years.
Lucid rushed to put out a car to the market. Even though they had great engineering, the package was not ready. They could have spent a few more years to perfect the product before launching or could have made a Tesla Roadster 1 type car for enthusiasts to show off their technology. If they wanted to sell a car in their Beta stage, they should have informed buyers and priced it accordingly.
If they want to attract younger generation, then they must work on the software and reliabilty of their vehicles. It is natural that they will be comapred to Tesla. Annoyances aside, it is not practical to take your car to service every other month.

The constant repeat complaining by the very few who had issues gets very very annoying.

The “ look at me, I”be had an issue and I want to tell the whole world, so they can look at me”

Understand if they are coming here with a question, or mention a problem, but they constantly regurgitate the same issue again and again and hijack the forum.

That is a very big problem.

We all know the vehicle software has been improved tremendously. And those petty click bait YouTubers- the “ engineer” who does no engineering. Measuring force to remove a soda can from the cup holder….give me a freakin break. And then we have the OOS gang, he gets lane keeping drifting a bit , all he had to do is do a software reset and it got fixed. But he has to overdramatize it in the video he posted.

Agree, service needs improvement but everything is fantastic about these cars, now that software has caught up. And please, to those yapping about FSD, it’s not safe, and I don’t care! I drive my cars and Lucid makes the best mainstream drivers cars that are almost as good as Porsches.

My 2022 AGT had multiple assembly and component shortfalls and less than a year after delivery Lucid volunteered to replace it with a similarly configured 2023 which it delivered in early 2024. I did not request a replacement. Lucid has been upfront with me and I have not once complained. They always provided a suitable loaner, usually an Air GT when my 2022 was in the SC for prolonged intervals and always delivered the loaner to my house. Their techs have always been diligent and respectful, as has the corporate staff. Lucid is not a perfect company but what car maker is? It is an inovative and very creative car company and builds drivers vehicles, not computers on wheels. I knew going in that an early build for a new brand would not be perfect or anywhere near the level of my Porsches or Audis but I regard the technology and design to be superior to any other car I have owned or know about. The studio in Rutherford NJ volunteered to loan me a Pure to drive to my father's funeral the next day 200 miles away after my totaled AGT was delivered to their lot late one Thursday afternoon in June. I am sorry that some have had negative experiences with Lucid but I am compelled to share this for those who doubt its intentions. FWIW, my $125,000,($228,899 in September 2026 dollars)2003 MB CL55 was a month old and it stranded me with an electronic glitch that shut it down. That was on a Sunday afternoon. I did not freak out or let it ruin my day, just tolerated the fact that complex devices can malfunction.

Let's not exaggerate, the software has definitely not caught up. It certainly is better, but it is missing many features that are available on competitors and even vehicles at a much lower price point.

I also don't care about FSD, but many do. To remain competitive this needs to catch up, and soon.

The hardware has started to lag as well. Air is still using an antiquated locking/unlocking system that has been the source of much complaining since the beginning. Six years later, no change. NACS has become the standard for almost every electric vehicle, even their own Gravity.

I do love that you are so positive about the brand, but we all need to be objective as well. If Lucid is to survive, they need to keep up and even surpass the competition in software, hardware, sales, and service.

And please, to those yapping about FSD, it’s not safe, and I don’t care! I
So it’s not ok for those with issues to repeatedly mention them but it’s ok for you to repeatedly say how much you disdain FSD and shoot down those who value it? 🤔

Yeah I just hit the ignore on people like this watermelon guy who’s apparently focused on creating “content” not after solutions at all.

People like @socktucker are not the same as watermelon guy. At least I don’t see him trying to create a bunch of utube.

I have actually come to like @socktucker despite his spams (which has drastically decreased). He , at least provides solutions, answers where he can, and actually gives props sometimes. In short; he has gone through so much that I am not sure you can fault him for spamming; he has had very bad luck with Lucid.

I posted this on September 29 when 2.11 was just released, so this didn’t get much attention. This is perspective from a relatively new owner.

One question I do have that baffles me is that in a car that is built on an assembly line and therefore pretty much equal from one to the other other than tramenoption variations, how can some people have such horrible software problems and others not? One would think it would be all or nothing. Can anyone explain?

I can go off the rails occasionally, but I am also reasonable when it comes to someone saying hey, too much. I consider @borski a friend and also try not to poop in his sandbox too much 😂

Yes. This is the issue. Different cars react differtly to the same updates. Like how I and another person got 'The Beast of the Middle East' as a device on the last update and others did not.

beast.webp

I have so wanted to love this car. Even bought a bunch of stock when I got this. But...
