Ha - I never record on my phone via portrait mode. In my opinion, every video should be in landscape mode, as that is how films are shot too. Looks much better on your phone and if I want to watch it on my Oled TV looks so much better too or even on my computer monitor. Don’t understand why anyone would use portrait mode, when all you have to do is turn your phone to landscape and then it is filmed the way it is meant to me and looks so much better!

I think in some cases people are just lazy. It’s easier to shoot in portrait mode. I shoot a lot of 8K video with a DSLR, so things like this never come up.

I truly don’t understand your hostility. I had previously complemented your video and it seemed to me it was shot in landscape mode (OK, I just looked again and parts were shot in portrait…no biggie to me). I never claimed my videos were excellent nor did I say I was ‘un-lazy’. At any rate:

Purists rant against portrait video, and I totally get that. But at the end of the day, the trend goes where the young people go, and right now they are moving towards portrait. Just a fact of life. Fighting it is like asking a glacier not to melt.

Interesting, as none of my nieces or nephews use portrait mode either. And if they did could care less what the younger people do, as portrait mode is just plain wrong.

We have unbelievable technology in our phones, cameras, etc and then ruin it with portrait mode. Hmm.

I don’t actually disagree, but Instagram and tiktok do, and that’s where amateur video shooting is headed. Pros will always shoot landscape of course.

So, i asked my friend to check the portrait vs landscape mode on his favorite pron website. 95%, he claims, is being shot in a landscape mode.
Not sure what to say , except that landscape works for me
