3.0 on Air

Perhaps we could consider that there exists a spectrum between “leave it to rot” and “build all new features twice for both the old stack and the new”?
Again, is Lucid Air discontinued? If not, how are you going to continue selling it if you don't have the latest features?

Because it is still an excellent car. Best in class for range, interior space, etc. The software is very solid right now. I can't think of an EV sedan I'd rather have.

We'll see if that's enough. :) A MacBook Pro from 2021 is still an excellent laptop, but good luck selling it today with the macOS from 2021.

Your comparison between a high-performance EV and a five-year-old laptop represents a classic False Analogy and a Straw Man distortion of my position.

First, you are conflating two entirely different categories of utility. A vehicle’s primary value proposition is defined by its mechanical engineering, thermal management, and physical architecture, areas where the Lucid Air remains 'best in class.' Unlike a laptop, which is a pure silicon-and-software interface that becomes obsolete when its processor can no longer execute modern code, an EV is a piece of heavy infrastructure. A 2021 MacBook Pro is limited by fixed hardware; a car with 'solid' current software and industry-leading range does not suddenly lose its utility simply because a newer UI exists. To imply otherwise is to argue that one thing has anything to do with the other, which is logically incommensurable.

Furthermore, by suggesting that I am advocating for 'frozen' 2021 software, you’ve constructed a Straw Man. My argument is that the current, mature state of the Lucid platform provides a superior ownership experience today. If you actually owned a Lucid, you would likely understand that this level of refinement isn't comparable to a depreciating consumer gadget. If you don't own one, I’m not exactly sure why you are here speculating on a hypothetical obsolescence that doesn't exist in the real world. If you do, I hope you’ll get a verified owners badge soon so we can discuss the car’s actual merits rather than irrelevant tech metaphors.

I know quite a few developers who are more than happy with their 2021 MacBooks.

At the same time, I get that Lucid needs to keep the Air moving forward.

It’s worth realizing that Air is about to become Lucid’s smallest concern by a long shot. The numbers, regardless of what they do, will never support Air being a major focus. They need to point the bulk of their resources on Midsize. And get the Air on the same major codebase as soon as possible. Then, hopefully a hardware refresh for Air that will allow more of Midsize’s ADAS features to be possible.

If Air survives long term, it will be those things that make it happen. Not continued software updates for increasingly outdated hardware.

Spending all their time keeping a few thousand of us 2022 buyers happy would be a seriously foolish way to spend limited resources, in my opinion. My car is everything I hoped it would be. And it will get even better with 3.0. I’m cool with whatever additional support I get from here on out. Especially if that means Lucid gets to keep making cars long enough to produce my next car.

We live in a capitalist system. Money talks. At some point, you have to focus on the people paying you now, not those who paid you four years ago. Maybe that’s cynical, but it’s the difference between long term survival and bankruptcy.

It would be different if our cars were still as buggy as the 1.0 days. We’ve gotten more than enough improved functionality since then.

How does any car that doesn’t have OTAs at all still get sold?

The Air has plenty of features and I do not find it lacking. That said, it can assuredly have more.

But more for the sake of more isn’t better. I’d rather they get it right than release something buggy just to “get something out.” I think we’d all prefer everything all at once and yesterday, but that’s not often how reality works.

Wrote this on an iPhone 15 Pro btw. Guess I suck for having too few megapixels or whatever lol

Again, let's Lucid not update the Air software and we'll how it sells in few years. I surely won't buy one when my lease is up, and since I am not interested in a bigger car, that means I will be done with Lucid. But I am sure you guys will keep the company floating.

P.S. I am not getting a verified owner badge, because I don't have anything to prove. But I like your paranoia.

Once again, you seem to think there is a binary: either update the software with every new feature, or don't update it at all, ever. I (and others) are arguing that there exists a spectrum in your binary that you apparently fail to (or perhaps, at this point, refuse to) recognize. Surely, you must agree that they could update the software and still not release every Gravity feature before 3.0 is released? They could, for example, add a new feature or two before they release 3.0 and add the rest? Or fix bugs? Or only release V2H? And all of those would constitute some software updates but not all software updates before 3.0?

If you cannot agree that there exists a spectrum between 'no updates ever again until 3.0' and 'feature parity with Gravity immediately,' then we will simply have to agree to disagree, as we will not find common ground on this. You have constructed a strawman, as @Bobby helpfully tried to mention.

None of us disagree that we'd like to see the Air software updated. Also, nobody is paranoid? But okay.

Hope you have a lovely week.

(As an aside, you've also constructed an appeal to extremes, by implying that if Lucid doesn't update the software they've 'discontinued the Air' and it won't sell any more Airs at all, which is inherently and obviously untrue, but that's beside the point)

Why are you putting words in my mouth? Where did I say "update the software with every new feature"? The claim was that the Air is perfect and no ANY updates are needed anymore.

Why are you guys so defensive? It's a car. You are not even making it. You just one few of them. It's really pathetic, frankly.

I'm not defensive. I am simply having a discussion. Disagreeing with you is not defensiveness. [0] I am arguing with your reasoning, which I believe leads to an incorrect conclusion. I would appreciate it if you would engage in good faith and argue with my reasoning, not engage in ad hominem arguments that focus on any 'defensiveness' you perceive, especially as I've now assured you there isn't any. If we were sitting across from each other, I'd happily continue the discussion over a beer or coffee or anything else.

I have no problem losing an argument, provided there is valid reasoning. That's literally how any of us learn, and I'd argue that if both parties are operating in good faith, who wins an argument is actually quite irrelevant, assuming the goals are seeking truth, and not simply "winning" for the sake of being able to claim you 'won.'

Calling your discussion partners 'pathetic,' for the record, does not move your argument forward as you might wish it did.

To answer your question directly:
Again, is Lucid Air discontinued? If not, how are you going to continue selling it if you don't have the latest features?

This is what I am referring to. I am not putting words in your mouth. You stated, and I quote: "how are you going to continue selling it if you don't have the latest features?"

I don't know any other way to read that, but please feel free to clarify if we misunderstood your position.

[0] "When we hear the word 'argument,' we tend to think of an adversarial confrontation between two or more people, with bickering, defensiveness, and increased negative emotions. This is only one kind of argument... Academically and logically, an argument is an attempt to persuade someone of something by offering reasons to accept a given conclusion."

No it's not!

AND more Highway Assist/Pilot functionality. The original DDP promises do not go away due to a less definitive box in a later presentation.
hell...my DDPro has never even worked. Multiple calls, emails with proof (photos/videos) to NHQ, a couple of service centres...and nothing. They receive the info and I get ghosted. It's an absolute joke.

I took a chance and as much as I love driving the car, the software and support has made it so i won't be heartbroken when I change and will not come back to lucid.

For argument's sake, lawyers argue at the Supreme Court... :)

With respect - this isn’t an issue of them needing to release more features, so I’m not sure how it’s related. The Air has hands free DDP and it works great, although evidently your car has issues… which is definitely a service problem, and you should keep pushing back on it if your hands free DDP does not work consistently. That is the present state, and if yours isn’t there, it is incumbent on service to fix it.

I know you jump on to defend everything lucid at every chance you get...and i get it..you really love your car.

but it's absolutely related if you see what i quoted. The person talked about improvements to DD Pro. Some don't work properly and mine (and i'm sure others) don't work at all. So I think it's not off-topic to say make it work in existing cars before trying to upgrade/add new features.

I have been pushing back. Tough to do so if you don't live near a service centre and you just get ghosted. I finally got a response yesterday and I'll have to drive 9-10 hours for them to check it out and they are unsure of the work needed. The latter is my fault for buying a car so far from a service centre. Doesn't make it any less frustrating.

edit: and to be clear, I actually love the car. I just wish I had a feature that I paid for that works...I could even live with the software quirks. It's just disheartening to be fighting with Lucid for months and months and months across different service centres and NHQ for something the car is supposed to have. It's made me want to get back to the taycan, despite loss of range of practicality :/

They can ship your car. I don’t live near a service center and when I had an issue they shipped to the repair place and gave me a rental. Maybe ask again

This is not true. Try reading what I actually write, instead of what you perceive I wrote.

I do not defend Lucid at every chance I get. I defend Lucid when others jump to conclusions and do not get there through valid logical reasoning. My issue isn’t with “attacking Lucid,” but with bad arguments.

And, for the record, I would defend Tesla, Rivian, Ford, or anyone else against a bad argument. There are plenty of valid arguments to make; all I ask is that you make them, which requires a little more effort but makes the conversation that much better.

Moreover, this is a useless ad hominem argument.

Yours is broken. Service needs to fix it. As I said, this has nothing at all to do with new features. No amount of new software will fix your problem, as you have a hardware issue.

The post you quoted was referring to wanting new features for DDP that were presumably promised some time ago that haven’t been released yet. That is not what you were talking about, as you were discussing how the existing features do not work for you, due to hardware issues. (As the software works elsewhere just fine)

Thus, it is unrelated.

They can tow your car. They do it all the time. You do not have to drive 9-10 hours.

Agreed nobody should get ghosted (of course), but again, that is unrelated to 3.0 or any new features.

I wish you did too! The rest of us do, and you definitely should have yours fixed.

I hear you. Not getting service sucks. And is absolutely relevant to the forum, just on a different thread. :)

i'm not going to reply to everything as it's going to be circular

but i'll reply to this part just for a data point: all service centres told me that if the car is still driveable and not essential to the "driveability" of the car, then i have to drive it in and it cannot be towed as it would be too expensive for them.
