The article leans towards a hybrid version, not totally electric. Seems like a great candidate for the new solid state batteries that could be 1/3 the weight of the current lithium EV batteries.

Solid State Battery Tech For EV Cars: Challenges Lie Ahead
A MX5 hybrid with a ton of torque would be fun. Would need to be a pretty small battery to keep the essence of the car. I would not hold my breath for solid state battery in 2026. There will eventually be batteries much better than the current crop, but getting something new to industrial scale manufacturing always takes longer than the estimate.

I’m hopeful for full electric.

Convertible is more fun driving in manual transmission. Just saying…

Not more fun, imho. Just different fun. I love a good manual, but I also want a fast convertible go kart :)

Low cd and cg, 30% smaller frontal area than the Air, one of the tiny 400+ HP motors Lucid developed for gen 3 formula E powering the rear wheels, and a 40-60kWh battery pack. That would be a lot of fun! 😁

If this sun $70k MG roadster come to America, it will blow everyone away.

That's a beautiful car with great specs! A little leery about the Chinese manufactured MG in terms if reliability but I would get one in a minute to replace my RX-8
