We have had many issues with our Lucid Dream Edition Performance over the last year. (multiple repairs to the frunk, due to it not opening or closing correctly, rear parking sensors becoming grounded and no longer working, door handles randomly in the summer/fall going into ice break mode, steering wheel noise repaired with felt, etc.) Lucid service has been great about sending out a mobile tech and on a couple occasions bringing the vehicle into the Chicago Goose Island service center. I do feel the service with Lucid is the best we've ever experienced with any car brand.

The most frustrating issues we've had are with our profiles not switching correctly. My profile is the main one. However, this car favors switching to my wife's secondary profile when we're together. The problem is the height difference between us and time it takes for the seats to go back to the other profile and the inability to put the car in reverse while the profiles are switching. There have been many times where the seat is stuck in a position for a 5'2 person and I'm 6'3. Lucid had us try all of the troubleshooting things they could come up with. Eventually a mobile tech discovered my key would only work if I was within 3-4 feet of the car, which may be why it was connecting to my wife's fob first on most occasions. Many times when my wife is out and about without me, the car just won't unlock. Or it will with the help of the app, but she loses all her seat settings.

Our vehicle has gained a lot of popularity at the local service center for all the weird unresolved things it's done to us over the last year. Our heater was replaced under warranty. And most recently we were without our car for a couple weeks to replace our HV battery, the powertrain front drive unit (it was leaking oil), 2 of our door handles that hadn't been replaced yet and finally our in-vehicle infotainment center console controller with the hopes it correct the incorrect profile switching situation.

Our vehicle was returned to us on this past Tuesday and we had to reprogram everything after the replacements. At first, all seemed in good order. Then the weirdest things started happening on later that night....

Tuesday Night:
We took the car out for a short drive. When we got home there was a constant loud clicking sound coming from the front of the vehicle. I'd never heard this before and thought it might be the frunk. Then I got lower to the ground and saw it was the Active grille shutters (AGS). They were making a terribly loud noise that started out loud and got softer, but continued. There was no ice or snow here this day.

Wednesday Mid-Day:
Again I took a short drive and after driving I could hear the Active grille shutters (AGS) making noises, but much softer than the night before. Again no ice or snow, so not sure why they are activating.

Thursday Afternoon:
My wife was running errands in the cars. She went to turn from a busy street into the Target parking lot. She said when she went to turn, she had great difficulty turning the wheel. She had to go to the next entrance after slowing down more, and after applying great force, the steering wheel made a popping sound and finally turned. She called me concerned about what might be wrong with the car. She decided to come home and upon entering our neighborhood, the same thing happened where the steering wheel wouldn't turn and she had to apply great force to it. It didnt' make a popping sound this time. I took the car out of a drive and I did not experience the same issue. Though the seat would not lower. It was stuck in a raised position despite pressing on the Lucid logo and resetting the card 3 times.

Friday:
It snowed and the roads were slick so we cancelled our plans to go out, not trusting the vehicles behavior.

Saturday morning:
All morning, the vehicle kept having issues. I reset it a couple times (Lucid Logo). Here is the message I sent to the service advisor:
"1. After letting the car sit overnight, the next day, the driver's seat will now move up and down again.
2. One of the side bolsters still isn't working correctly.
3. The car will not remember my seat settings. I save the seat setting to my profile, but every time I come back I have to set it again and save it to my profile.
4. I keep getting a camera error when I pull into my garage that says "camera error, turn your vehicle off and on again"
5. Overall the car seems more "buggy" and glitchy since getting it back.
6. I haven't noticed the car preventing me from turning the wheel like my wife experienced. Though at times I do feel more resistance turning the wheel. "

Sunday Afternoon:
Everything seemed fine on the vehicle this morning. We drove to church, drove to a friends house for a Bible Study, then went to lunch with friends. No issues, until we were on our way home. Here's the message I sent the service advisor:

"A few minutes ago (4:10-4:13PM CST) for the first time I experienced what my wife experienced where the steering wheel was very difficult to turn. I took a left turn into my neighborhood, then when I went to make a right turn onto a street that connects to our cul de sac, I could not turn the wheel at first. I applied great force and it did eventually release, but it made a popping sound. It took so much force, that I overcorrected which had not applied the breaks we would have go off the road into our neighbors yard. After stopping the vehicle I had my wife pull out her phone to video. I could feel resistance in the steering wheel to turn it back to the left to get us back straight on the road. The steering wheel loosened back to normal, we turned on our street and I decided to go past my house to the cul de sac to make a circle, upon coming out of the circle I felt great resistance again, but no popping sound. We videoed both. I'm not sure what's going on, but now my wife is afraid to drive the car. I can now understand why this scared her so much when she was on a busy highway turning off into a business parking lot."

Does anyone have any idea what could be going on with the steering wheel? I can deal with the annoyances of the software being glitchy, but now I'm not feeling like we can safely drive this vehicle. If anyone has had a similar issue, I'd appreciate some insight into how it was resolved.

I've never heard of that one. Sounds like a steering column or rack issue for service to examine.

After being in service for a couple weeks, I'm finally getting my car back in a few minutes. Long story short, here's what was going on with the steering per the notes:

Cause: The technician test drove the vehicle and verified the concern. The technician could feel the steering binding up at times when the wheel is being turned. The technician removed the intermediate and upper steering shafts and performed an inspection. The Upper shaft joints felt tight in one direction and loose in the other the technician replaced the upper and intermediate shafts and test drove the vehicle again to make sure they are no longer binding. No more binding is being felt.

Corrections: The FTS agreed with the replacement of the upper and intermediate shafts. The technician also performed circuit testing to the steering rack doing voltage drops across all circuits. All circuitry tested passed the inspection. The technician and the shop foreman test drove the vehicle in excess of 60 miles to verify the repair. The steering is no longer binding when turning.

They don't seem to know what caused this, but the video we made when he had the issue did help the shop foreman to identify pretty quickly what we were experiencing. I don't like all the issues, but I continue to appreciate the excellent service, communication and commitment resolving whatever comes up. Lucid Service has been remarkable.

Thanx for soberingly posting your issues. I'm sorry to hear about your pain. Hope this time around it works like a charm.

Only other thing that has worked for me when I get gremlins (and you had way more than your fair share of gremlins) is that I will plug it into my charge port to see if that resets things and even once had a service advisor ask me to go to a high speed charger (like Electrify America) and plug it in there for a few minutes and that cured things. Just putting it out there for others to remember to try during 'trouble shooting'.
