The backup camera is unusable in the dark unless your foot is on the brake which then barely casts enough light. It must be a software issue where when they try to up the resolution in the display it breaks other things. So I REALLY hope these cameras can at least get to the same quality I already had in my Air GT.

If it is software update, why are they holding back, I’m sure they realize they are loosing some sales because inferior camera imaging.
 
Software is gonna end up being Lucid's achilles heel if they don't improve quickly

I can’t compare to an air, but can say my Gravity has a ton of glare at night in cameras. Much worse than our Tesla and Rivian. Our Rivian R1S G1 cameras are fairly terrible, but they’re better than Gravity by far at night.
 
Air side cameras are much sharper than gravity a rear backup camera is super dim on Gravity. They need better reverse lighting perhaps to fix that. 🤷🏽‍♂️

I do think it has to do with dim reverse lighting, but an “easy” fix is to change the contrast on the camera at night. The car already has at least one light sensor to detect outdoor lighting.
 
Encouraged to see the email from CEO saying they will be improving the performance and resolution of the blind spot cameras! Hoping to see that soon.

I think i finally realized why the Gravity isn't great at seeing in the dark with the backup camera. From what I can tell from an OoS video where they were backing into a charger, there is only a single centered light (i.e. the fog light) that provides any illumination. Most cars have dual lights at the side flanks. Not sure what the heck Lucid was thinking here. 🤔

Seems easy to fix with OTA to have more lights turn on right?

Just make the contrast higher at night. That’s an “easy” fix. Adding lights, making them brighter, etc - not so easy.

Increase screen brightness maybe? Could just pop the trunk, lights inside

So I had said a while back that I thought the cameras in the Gravity were crap based on the two I had test driven. I was surprised to find that the cameras in my Gravity were better than those, by far. So now I wonder if this is partly a software issue and maybe partly a hardware/assembly issue because I've been seeing other people say they're bad.

The backup camera definitely sucks at night but the side view cams have been clear for me (even if seeming a little lower quality than a 720p camera should have) but nothing like the blotchy, pixelated mess the test drive ones had.
 
Since this has been renewed...My assessment of the cameras after a few months:

Back up cam during the day: Very good
Back up cam during the night: OK, not great (lighting issue, not camera fidelity issue IMO)
Blind spot cam during the day: Serviceable but unsatisfying. Looks like 720p at best
Blind spot cam during the night: Terrible bordering on useless

Frankly, in 2026 1080p should be the absolute bare minimum resolution for any screen I look at in any context auto or otherwise. I'm not sure what the official resolution of these cameras is but a luxury car brand should do better. The cost difference is trivial.

I'm not as optimistic that software tweaks are going to meaningfully change the camera quality. Seems like a hardware problem at least for the blind spot cameras.

As Kyle Conner at Out of Spec likes to say about some things in the Gravity, “it’s not premium!”

I think all they can do about the backup camera is boost the gain/ISO. Polestar/Volvo does that at night but then everything looks like an ultrasound.

I had an aftermarket 720p backup cam in my Jeep for years (Kenwood CMOS-740HD) and it was great, no complaints about it being "only" 720p. The image quality from that was definitely better than the 720p cameras in the Gravity but it also had HDR and a low lux rating that made it good at night so that probably contributes to the quality difference.

That one didn’t work at all, even after being properly formatted. I think software is the current blocker for these cameras, if I had to guess higher resolution wasn’t smooth due to a bug and they just scaled down to barely acceptable to speed it up.

The vertical lights on the front bumper can change from amber to white. I wonder if the amber rear turn signals can change to white when backing up for extra illumination.

It’s a good question. The white light used for backup illumination also turns red for fog light mode.
