Just read this today- pretty terrifying how Tesla seems to be concealing critical data about their cars, and also pretty terrifying that none of the authorities (either here or in Europe) have managed to gain access to it. (and I knew about the video of FSD not working- but still, pretty awful that the software shuts off FSD seconds before impact so that they can claim that it wasn't operating during the accident.)

Interesting. If the car knows it is going to crash why does it cause the crash in the first place?

Because the vehicle doesn't "know" anything. Drive assist logic is merely a complex set of instructions that are strung together rapidly enough to be somewhat effective in meatspace.

My guess is that the car can recognize the impending crash but is too stupid to not get you in the predicament in the first place.
