Weird bug: My car unlocks/starts without any app, fob, or card

That picture is a bit too close up. It's hard to tell what part of the console has a hole. Please post another picture from a wider perspective.

See my attached example.

Hahaha. This intrigued me so much that I had to go to the garage and check out mine. That's quite a nice hole someone punched out - I wonder how that happened? I'm including a picture of mine for reference, excuse the red candy flecks. It looks like they'll have to remove the whole center console to get under there. May I suggest you take the opportunity to do a little patch job with some black felt and high adhesive duct tape? Seems like a quick and easy repair with the ugly side being hidden once the console is back in place.

That hole is not normal. You should get that part replaced.

Based on your picture, that hole seems to be where the cupholders would be located.
Is that correct?

Back to your original question
Do you have the Lucid app on your watch? That could be unlocking the car for you

No, he has an Air and your picture is of a Gravity. It’s not the same but if anything, it corresponds to the back where your cables are kept.

My bad.

I misread the model being discussed.
Thought it was a Gravity.

Thanks for the correction.

Any update on your problem? I'm very curious what the tech found....

Sorry for the delay to anyone interested. I actually ended up buying the replacement part on eBay from a salvaged Air, but haven’t actually installed it yet. A mobile tech is coming in a couple weeks, so I’ll see if it is possible to pay for a reinstallation.

But in the meantime, I was driven more and more crazy by thinking that the fob was in the car and that anyone could technically just drive off.

So I went to Amazon and bought an assortment of flexible magnetic grabbers and small magnets. By sending down a small magnet on a string and simultaneously fishing around with the magnetic grabber, I retrieved a fob from the car’s depths last night.

As a test, my wife could no longer unlock my car.

The feeling was—and I’m not joking—fucking electric. It was so exciting and satisfying that I’m almost glad this ridiculous situation even happened.

Now, has anyone replaced one of those front parking sensors by themselves?

Glad you got it figured out!

That's awesome! Nothing like solving a problem, especially one that you weren't sure you could fix. The car did come with two fobs but since it no longer locks automatically there may not be another fob in there unless the battery is dead. No harm in having the tech look and also ask about the front parking sensors. Not sure what the problem is but replacing any of the sensors is not a diy job (really).

I’ve come to the conclusion that diy for any ev is pretty much dead for common folks

Yeah, I’m hopeful that the mobile tech will be able to replace it for not too much, but I saw somewhere else on here that they got quoted $2500 (as opposed to a few hundred dollars like previous posts). If it ends up being $2500, this video will embolden me to at least try it:

I think my faulty sensor is also the most accessible one.
