A couple days ago I was on a two lane road out in the sticks and there was a slow car ahead of me and a straightaway coming up. I lined things up and punched it (was probably doing about 40 to 50 MPH). I passed and pulled back into the lane and looked quickly down at the dashboard and it said I was going 112MPH. Holy smokes, that was quick. I quickly got off the accellerator and slowed down a bit (there were corners coming up too

Big yawn. Take a Dream Edition and strip down some features but add in some blue paint. Replace the Dream badge with a GT-S one. The good news is that Lucid appears to have not waisted any engineering time (that needs to stay focused on Cosmos development and Gravity/Air refinement). With very little investment, Lucid can get a little press attention now (especially with Cosmos delay) and maybe add just a few extra Gravity sales to the “I must have the baddest ass model for bragging rights” and give them some blue eye candy to prove their purchase. Interesting that they kept HP 15 below Dream to keep from pissing of the original Dream buyers.
It feels like they came up with something real quick to show off as an actual concrete product though. If it doesn't have its own paint color (not a wrap), and some other visual queue, I will assume its a debadged Dream Edition so they had something to show for the car show. Which is arguably better than nothing.

Yeah I have to say I’m underwhelmed on this one.
A ‘lower’ entry point of $127k? And it doesn’t include all options? I don’t see this moving the needle on sales. And it definitely does nothing to enhance the image of Lucid in the eyes of 99% of buyers for 7-seat capable SUVs. Lucid remains as a niche for enthusiasts with this version.
A production launch for Gravity X on the other hand would have expanded sales to a much larger pool of buyers.

Totally agree. Would rather have seen them introduce an updated 27 Air and streamline models/options in the Air and Gravity. They need sales not niche cars. People should also be able to order their cars too if they are not going to streamline options more. That has not been available for the Air in a while, as far as I know.

While I expected a Sapphire Gravity launch, I can see the sense of what they've done. The engineering for the Dream was already done, so this costs them almost nothing to put into production. It gives them something to talk about. And they'll sell more of these than they would sell a $250K Sapphire version that would have cost them a lot to develop. I wonder if it'll be available with 5 seats. Forcing me into 7 seats caused me to pass on upgrading my GGT pre-order to a GDE last year.
I'm also unconvinced that skipping a Gravity X launch was a mistake. I don't see Lucid's brand identity as well positioned for the "adventure" crowd, so I don't know how many they'd actually sell, and that would be a fundamentally new variation that would cost them a fair bit to put into production.

If Lucid had simply announced:
“The 1,070-hp performance previously offered in the limited Gravity Dream Edition is joining the permanent lineup as the Gravity GT-S.” I’d have basically zero problem with it. But they drew attention to a reveal. I think it needed something that made somebody immediately say “that’s the Gravity GT-S.” Lucid had several relatively easy opportunities:
- Exclusive exterior color - Sapphire Blue would have been the obvious choice, or a new metallic blue specifically for GT-S.
- Exclusive wheels - probably the single biggest missed opportunity. Give it a beautiful forged 22/23” GT-S wheel that isn’t available on GT.
- Unique interior - blue leather/Alcantara, different perforation, carbon-fiber trim, GT-S embossed headrests, something.
- Exterior treatment - slightly different lower fascia, diffuser, spoiler, or trim.
- More power - even 1,150–1,200 hp would have allowed them to say the GT-S advances beyond Dream Edition rather than merely replacing it.
