Thanks for that. My opener does have MyQ. Do you know if that service is compatible with Lucid?

Homelink charges a licensing cost per unit. Many manufacturers (including Tesla) pass that along, and Lucid and Tesla both charge $350. Harley Davidson charged $330 🤷‍♂️

But what do I know? I'm just one of many ordinary Lucid customers.

I have another guess, but unfounded: it’s possible Lucid has internal data stating that people simply don’t use Homelink. If that’s the case, I can understand why they would choose to not include it by default.

I made that up, to be clear - but it’s at least just as valid of an option as “we got cheap”

Other manufacturers, similarly, have Homelink on the top trims but not the lower ones (but you can option it for a fee)

MyQ used to be subscriptionless, and you could access it via an API. When they switched to a subscription model, there was a huge uproar and a lot of people dumped MyQ (myself included) for ratgdo and other options.

How quickly the world forgets, though :)

Not by default. You can use Siri or make a shortcut if you have iOS, or you can install Home Assistant and use that.

Alternatively, buy a ratgdo, konnected black, meross, tailwind… pretty much anything but the ever-locked down MyQ… and never worry about this again.

(Or get HomeLink installed)

You could be right.
People may use HA, MyQ, or whatever the software of choice may be.
I can't see folks happy with the clicker for daily usage, though.

I know at least 3 people who love their Lucid and could not be bothered to deal with any “new fangled technology” and see nothing at all wrong with their clicker.

They don’t even know what Homelink is.

That is certainly not my largest group of friends, but I am also… a bit younger than them.

I don’t know the stats, but it’s not a crazy idea that while this forum laments and complains about lack of Homelink or HFDA or V2H, there are plenty of people just… driving the car, enjoying it, and moving on with their day.

I have homelink in my AGT, but never bothered to set it up. I just press my garage door clicker attached to the sunvisor and it works instantly. I press it about 300 feet from my garage and it is fully open before I arrive. I always had a friend set it up in all my previous cars. Too lazy to bother them as this set up works fine with me.

I discovered that Homelink is a convenience feature that I did not miss being taken away.

My Gravity has Homelink that I have set up and use. When I had to drive a loaner Gravity, it took a day for me to remember to use my garage clicker instead of reaching for the nonexistent Homelink. After that first day, it became second nature. When I got my Gravity back, I subconsciously continued to use the clicker for the first day.

Not once did I think, “this clicker is annoying; I wish I had homelink.” Clicker versus Homelink simply became muscle memory and are interchangeable, IMHO. Homelink would be at the bottom of my priority list of options for the Touring trim.

Agree, and that is something in their control and very easy to fix.

I'm fine with clicker. Too lazy to figure out anything else with a 20 year old garage door.

I’ve had to enter a PIN to drive my car for an over a month now and they can’t fix it. Now it does this thing where it starts up, asks for PIN, then the pi pad disappears so I can’t enter it! I tried to move it the other day and it just got stuck there, CarPlay connected, HVAC on, ready to go-but demanding I enter a PIN on a screen that doesn’t respond to touch. 4 trips to service for this issue and they can’t fix it. I’m still in forced arbitration so I email the usual contact for that, but they’ve changed that process too and now you just get an auto reply that says “we have no timeline for replies to buybacks at this time”. It’s like getting the middle finger every day.

It’s also third party hardware. It’s the module they’re charging you for, not the software.
 
I understand why some people like their old school clickers..but I detest it. I want everything to be as clean and connected as possible without being a burden...so having homelink is not a "must" but as close as possible. I do agree with Borski with myq going behind a paywall for their api was a dick move and ruined some automation i had.

the homelink on my cayman was finnicky to set up but i kept at it because i don't want a remote on my visor hehe. Also, I find the homelink button on my lucid to have better range than my remote! not the case with my lightning though...which I hope to eventually trade for a rivian but the used rivians have gone up in price in Canada :( but i digress

all that to say, I get the frustration of not having homelink, but it also makes sense to have it as an option for a manufacturer.
 
And you have people like me that rent and the landlord didn't unlink their account from the garage door opener (and the master reset procedure didn't work) so I'm stuck with the clicker.

EDIT: i don't even remember if the garage door opener is even homelink capable now that I think about it lol. been like 5 years since I last looked into it.
