Sideswiped my garage door frame this morning. Insurance vs. Out-of-pocket + DFW shop recs?

My biggest concern would be them becoming uninsurable.
In a sense that is already the case, though not due to the repair cost. When I was shopping for insurance I received no-quotes from a number of independent insurance brokers and very specifically from Progressive. The issue was 819 hp. I'm in my 60s with an empty nest household, so go figure.

I’m a progressive agent. They’re like California: as goes progressive, so goes the rest of the industry.

Progressive hasn’t covered Lucid since I bought the car in 2022. I have never had issues with any other insurer, including GEICO, State Farm, Farmers’ and Cincinatti/PURE/Chubb.

They all quote and underwrite Lucid.

Uh.... I currently have my Gravity covered by Progressive. I had no problems getting coverage at time of purchase. I am a long time Progressive customer with no claims, so that probably helps.

They’ll quote it sure lol USAA is getting kinda wild on them too. The super big boys will do it, and there’s always Haggerty. Eventually carrier or two will specialize in them as they insure more of them.

Same. They covered my AGT with no issues. It’s by no means cheap and I suspect it may be state and case specific. I’ve been with the company 5+ years, have a clean claim history, and multiple policies with the company. I’m very cognizant of the fact that a claim with the Lucid could bring devastating financial consequences even with insurance. Unfortunately for most people the cost and availability of insurance is often an afterthought when buying a car. It really shouldn’t be.

I agree. I got a quote from them before I purchased the car. More expensive than my MachE, but not outrageous given the cost of the car.

well yeah you're in Arizona! There's enough Lucid there for them to build a model on it, and accident repair will be cheaper and faster.

Interesting. I’m on the carrier side and this might be why some carriers won’t insure them or the rate is so insane you won’t want to. They are definitely exotics.
Same thing happened when the Model S came out.

25K for this? I can buy another Pure for ~40K.

Thanks, I will take it Park Place for a quote.
Again, I'm spit balling here based off your photos. If the aluminum is not cracked, it could potentially just be repaired and painted. Park Place should be able to assess this for you when stop by for a quote.

Yeah those numbers are insane for a couple hundred dollar scrape. There is no universe where a small cosmetic scrape essentially makes the car disposable because of those costs.

I think you can get this done right for a lot cheaper by a high line body shop. The Lucid tax is ridiculous.
If you think this is insane, your 911 is just as expensive, (if not higher) to fix if you took it to a Porsche certified collision center.

Right! These were 100,000 dollar cars.

They are the $30,000 millionaire cars for the next generation, a whole bunch of Applebee's waiters are going to puke the first time they hit a bollard with their 4 year old $30,000 Air Pure and get the bill

Interesting. I am in Michigan which historically has the highest rates in the country. Progressive told me they could not underwrite my AGT. Several independent brokers who handle multiple companies also no-quoted me. I asked one of them why the no-quote. His agency mainly sourced customers to Progressive. He told me it was the 819 hp that was the issue. He said if I had a Pure it would be no issue and also thought maybe a Touring might work, but the 819 hp was more than they wanted to cover. But when you think about it, a Gravity GT has even more hp. 🤷‍♂️

This is a little concerning. I think USAA when they covered me did not even ask the model, just "Air".

So they are unaware it is a Dream Edition Performance. (Better not be any USAA employees on this forum... :) )

It’s always by State and how many of the vehicles are in the state, availability of parts and repairs, stuff like that. It has zero to do with your customer profile. Progressive fits you in to one of 4 existing profiles, they don’t create one for each risk.

Some carriers do it solely by MSRP of the base model. Mine is on a Travelers business policy and costs the same as my Tesla. Not my place to ask why!
