Police didn’t like the Arizona temporary tags

Not sure if this counts as an issue, but it’s definitely a problem i experienced that seems unique to Lucid.

Got pulled over in my new Lucid Air in Maryland. I wasn’t speeding, didn’t break any laws. They just thought my Arizona temp tags looked fake, then said the number didn’t come up when they ran it in their system. They also thought it was sketchy when they asked where i bought the car, which was in Tysons Corner, Virginia.

So, is there an issue with the tags? Also, why are the tags Lucid gave me from Arizona if I bought it in Virginia? 🤔
 
The link to Arizona might be the fact that they are built in Arizona. Other than that, I have no idea.
 
This is a side effect of the direct sales process. They did the paperwork in Arizona, and I then had to handle taxes and what not the first time I purchased. The second purchase they had systems in place for Alabama, and taxes were included in the purchase price.

I believe my temporary tags were from Arizona both times.
 
My temps were from AZ as well. I think they all are for states that don't have a physical dealer presence..

I had mine for almost 90 days and that was my fear. Luckily didn't get pulled over.

Thankfully, no. I guess they realized I wasn’t driving with fake tags even though it was quite odd for the temp tags to be from 1000+ miles away.
 
I had the same fear in GA and FL. But really none of their business if it’s valid.
 
The issue is that the temporary tag does not contain the information of the issuing state. AZ should be printed on the tag as any other states.

It literally is their business if it’s valid. You are driving on their roadways. They have jurisdiction. It is definitionally “their business.”
 
The same thing happened to me in Maryland on the first day I drove my car 3 years ago. Same explanation about not recognizing the plate; however, it cleared when he ran it through the system. My question then and now is why did he need to make a stop when he could have run the tags while trailing me (which he did)? I surmised he had never seen the Lucid Air before (fewer than a couple of hundred on the road nationally and less than a handful in the entire DMV area).

Far more Lucids in Maryland now, so an actual stop for that reason is unclear to me.

Yes I understand all that. However it sounded more as if the authorities just didn’t like the way it looked. I recall mine clearly showing the state as being Arizona and also clearly said temporary tag and the expiration date. Don’t see why they would question it , especially enough to stop someone over the tag. I live in Atlanta and I did a lot of driving between Atlanta and the gulf coast with no problem.

Honestly it felt like bored cops who saw something that caught their interest…

We were pulled over in my Audi a3 sport wagon
No ticket but all the traffic on both sides of the highway slowed down, what a coincidence.
 
I even did a plate transfer and still had to use the AZ temp tags until I got the new registration
 
Interesting. I bought my 2023 Lucid Air AWD back in July 2023 at Goose Island Chicago location and was immediately issued Illinois plates (actual plates on my car upon pickup) and never even received a temporary. This must vary from state-to-state

yes it's dependent on how much influence the NADA has on the state on who can sell cars direct without a dealership
