As much as I rag on the slow fob to unlock, I've gotta say that the walkaway lock has been working well for me. It always locked for me, but sometimes not until a far distance (where I was pulling out the phone to manually lock it when it finally locked on it's own. It seems to be happening at a (somewhat) more consistent distance now (roughly 2-4 car lengths away).

I still wish it had a chirp. But I do notice it has a light animation (at least in the rear) that shows when it's locking. That helps some, except it only lasts about 2 seconds so unless I'm looking back at just the right time I don't see it. Be nice if they kept it going for like 10 seconds. That would be the next best thing to a confirmation chirp.

I think someone said it’s a bug and there is a .2 release coming to fix it.

Don't the outside mirrors fold in when locked? That's what I look for on my old Tesla.

Seems pretty much the same as PAAK from what I can tell except it is a key fob instead of a smart phone. I can remember two times I've had to wait about 5 seconds standing at the drivers door. Anybody who previously had a Tesla will disagree with this. I never want to have to carry a fob again. Especially this Gravity fob, which is constantly getting triggered while it's in my pocket. Everyone is going to be carrying a phone anyway. Having the phone work as the key made car access so much better. I just carry the key card in my wallet for valet. "PAAK isn't any more convenient" sounds like making excuses for not being able to get it to work, because it very much is more convenient.

Having a key required for a modern EV is bizarre.

Yes, and that's what I'm usually looking for. But at a distance that can be a little hard to see (especially now that I'm in my late 60s). Especially with Lucid's muted paint colors. When it's slow to lock, you can be a good ways away.

And sometimes the car is parked between two others in a parking lot, blocking the view to the mirrors.

Why? Please show your work. Personally I don't put everything on my phone and I'm not sure I ever want to.

Note I've been virtually face to face with Kevin Mitnick during his hay day. These days would probably be called an amateur.

I wouldn't say that. Fobs are still pretty normal, but having other ways to do is pretty normal now too. Fortunately Lucid does offer 2 others methods as backup (cardkey and phone app). But both are relegated to backup rather than active proximity unlocking on approach, which is what everyone really wants 99% of the time. PAAK is the only alternative for that. Hopefully Lucid gets that working soon (and that it actually works consistently).

What is bizarre for any modern car (and not-so modern, EV or otherwise) is the fob working so poorly.

After reading "Ghost in the Wires" you realize that his initial "hacking" seemed to have more to do with a shameless person exploiting people's good nature/ gullibility. It comes in handy for both social media algorithms and modern politics...😪

🤮 he was called an amateur back then too, by anyone who actually knew what they were doing.

While the media and his adorable followers made “free Kevin” stickers, just as many of us who were breaking actual software and systems made “put Kevin back” stickers to distribute around defcon because he was just *that* loved by the community.

I’m sure he’s a nice guy and all.

[edit] social engineering is a real vulnerability class, and I am not saying what he did was not interesting. I am saying it didn’t make him “the best hacker in the world” and the man had a massive ego many orders of magnitude larger than his level of skill.

Google Maps Places API for navigation is a huge upgrade. The old nav was fine but business info was always outdated. This is way better.

Huh? This is my second EV and I’ve not had PAAK yet. Of the 5 EVs in my family (extended) only one, my wife’s EV9, currently has that feature. Just bc something it normal to you, doesn’t make it so for everyone.

Yeah, I can agree with the sentiment, it's also nice to have an option if I want to leave my phone behind. I guess the keycards can also function in this manner. I see both sides of the argument. I also know a significant portion of consumers struggle with PAAK. My in laws would never be able to get comfortable with this (late 60's) and would insist on a physical key fob. They still don't understand how you don't have to "turn your car off" when you park it. (I took them for a ride in our Gravity)
