Met back up with ChargePozitive at the new BP Pulse charging location near LAX on Friday. 48 chargers in total with 16 400kW NACS chargers.

Tested out the Gravity with a 5% to 80% charge

should've come to the one in Duarte 😄

Man @HC_79 that is awesome. Out of curiosity did that station show up in the Gravitys navigation? The charging is so mind blowing, like the fastest speed I ever hit in my Air was 301kw and that was at 8% SOC and it held it for 10 seconds. You were holding 327kw at 39%!

Surprisingly, given it had only been 2 or 3 weeks it’s actually showed up in the chargers section. Even started auto pre-conditioning when I got closer to the site.

That’s great, I was worried about the Gravity charger navigation database as it’s not like you can choose “BP” or “Alpitronic” but I guess if you say all chargers it was listed which is excellent. The Air navigation doesn’t show lots of DCFC for me like the Shell recharge by the airport here is invisible to the Air.

Interestingly, it’s searchable in the app but the car actually lists out all the chargers if they’re in use / available where the app just gives a high level summary

On our road trips I've found I have to verify all the details and availability in PlugShare before I accept a planned stop.

This was a one off test and with 48 chargers at least one was going to be working. On road trips I’ve set the route planner to default to Tesla only. I’m not dealing with the headaches the other charging providers cause.

I visited this station today and unfortunately they throttled ALL the plugs to 150 kw. SAD!

Wow…. That didn’t last long!

Was the station busy? Maybe the charging cabinets share power between posts, similar to the way Tesla V2 Superchargers do? I think some EAs do that too.

No, it was empty. All the stations are now marked with 150kw stickers and on the screen they all say 150kw =*( I was hoping it would go above that if I was the only one charging, but sadly it capped out at 150kw

The Alpitronic 400 kW units are designed for flexible power distribution. In other words, if one EV is asking for 100kW then another EV can theoretically ask for 250kW off the same unit and it not be a problem.

A flat 150kW ceiling across the site isn’t the result of “all chargers being in use”. it’s probably a deliberate site-wide limitation by BP Pulse which is sad given the site only opened a month ago.

Shady! Given the App still says 400kW is available

There’s a BP Pulse charger in MD I plan to try on a road trip next week. Shows as all 400kw. I am hoping that’s not throttled too. Not sure why they’d bother building 400kw and then just throttle it…

Went to an EA 350 tonight but had to share the unit with an Audi, so I maxed at 150kw…I just went to test plug and charge and it was perfect.

Went to BP Pulse in Elkton, MD today. Had about 120 miles of range, so not a super low SOC (32%). Still, it immediately pulled 321kw. It was insane. You could see the miles going up. It didn’t stay there too long though and settled at 246kw by the time it was at 39% - which took about one minute and 38 seconds!

It was $0.48/kWH - so actually two cents cheaper than the Tesla supercharger I used over the weekend.

Very quick and easy to use (not plug and charge, but easy) and I used a stall with NACS. They did have some with CCS.

Wish they had more of these around, but it’s actually in a convenient spot right off 95, so hope to use it again.
