Hi everyone,
I recently noticed that Lucid is now selling a new trifold frunk load cover for the Air, replacing the older bifold version.
I’m wondering if anyone here has purchased or used the new trifold version.
Is it noticeably more convenient or better designed compared to the original bifold cover?
Does it stay in place better, fold more easily, or provide more flexibility in real-world use?
At $250, I’m debating whether it’s worth the upgrade from the original version.
Would love to hear your thoughts or see photos if you have it installed.
Thanks in advance!

My 2025 came with this version. It seems to stay in place fine in the drink frunk, though it's a teeny bit awkward getting it in place one handed because whichever section you're not holding wants to fold/hang down while your trying to slide it in.

Other than that is fine. I haven't seen or used any other version, but I can't imagine it's really bad enough to be worth spending $250 to replace?

just going to stick with what came with my '23 LAT

Someone correct me if I’m wrong, but I think it’s in the store because the Pure models don’t ship with it. So for anyone who already has it it isn’t an upgrade or anything. Just a part that someone can purchase if they so desire.

Personally, I don’t think it’s a needed thing. But it’s nice to have if you mostly use only a small amount of the Frunk space. And don’t want to bend down lower into the massive frunk well. (Massive, and amazingly useful)

It does a nice job of covering an aftermarket spare.

the original cover isn't very good, $250 for a better one is excessive, lucid should just get rid of the of the poorly designed original and deliver the better one going forwards.

The original one worked fine for me - what issues did you have with it? The only thing it didn’t do was stand up on its own. This one stands up on its own.

I didn’t mind paying for the improvement after a few years. 🤷‍♂️ My first one never broke though.

Sometimes I imagine this is any other car and these details matter.

It's not, and they don't.
Wow I couldn’t disagree more….

They totally sweat the details with literally every part of this vehicle. I find even now (since receiving the first car in 2022) that I find new and interesting use cases or features.

It’s not like any other car, it’s better than any other car. Charging for something they don’t provide for lower trim vehicles is a good thing. As a shareholder I’m glad they can bring down the cost of the Pure and Gravity Vehicles so that more people can enter the Lucid family.

2025 Air has anchors fixed in the frunk to secure divider, without it I don't see how 3 folds divider can benefit.

So as I read this thread- I'm learning that my pre-owned 2024 (bought from Lucid) should have one or the other of these covers- correct?

The frunk updated parcel shelf has a handle and I noticed that one of the sides came off so its just flapping. Looks like it just screws in to the base but you have to get access to the top of the screw. Maybe that plastic piece just snaps up to expose it? I definitely don't want mobile service for this one but if there was someone who maybe has done a quick service video on how I can fix this myself, I'd appreciate it.🙏

do you think the screw cover (that plastic piece) just snaps up to expose the screw? I don't want to try and force that cover off though

Lucid held an Owners Club event ahead of Saturday's Cars at the Station in Detroit. That was the first time I'd seen the trifold. When I tried it I immediately went into Gollum mode (IYKYK). Very easy one handed operation and it stays in place when folded back. I use my frunk a lot. My gym bag goes in there with every trip to the gym. I often wind up running errands between the gym and heading home. Putting groceries or take-out food in the sub trunk, then my gym back on top is a very common use pattern for me. It is imperative that I keep fresh groceries separated from smelly gym clothes. I tend to wind up taking out the cover and setting it on top of the cover that has "Air" printed on it while I arrange things in the sub trunk, then put the cover on and the gym bag on top. The trifold panel will eliminate the need to do that.

At Cars at the Station I was able to test run putting one of the trifolds in my frunk and operating it. Worked great. Manipulating each version back-to-back made the improvement obvious.

After the Owners Event we were given a code for attendees to use to receive a discount on accessories if ordered within a week's time. I ordered one.

My 2023 AGT has a bifold cover. The cover in the store is the trifold cover. Very different. Could be that it became part of the standard equipment sometime after the 2023 MY (mine was a late build) but it was definitely NOT in the 2023.

Standing up on its own is a big deal for me.

When I tested it at Cars at the Station it worked fine, even without the anchors. I am wondering though if the anchors come with.
I'll buy your older version if anyone wants to upgrade
I'll take you up on that if you haven't already gotten one from @Sid432 .

I think the little tab on the side can be pressed in and it’ll come apart in two pieces. Then you can screw it down (if the threads are still there) and close it back up.

The cover from my 2023 lives in the garage. We use the frunk well for grocery shopping. It is the perfect size and keeps the bags from spilling over during the high G right turns I make to get back home.
