Lucid Air
My Lucid Air, which had less than 2500 miles on it, stopped suddenly due to a drive unit failure. The vehicle has been at the service center for over 6 weeks, and they still haven't figured out how to fix it! They said they replaced the rear motor unit and battery, and now have an issue with a "bolt" that is part of some assembly. Apparently the engineers are working on a fix, but still nothing definite after more than 6 weeks in the shop! Has anyone else experienced anything like this. I have requested a new car, but they have not agreed to anything yet. This is quite frustrating.

Sad Story: Third time my front drive unit has failed, I love my AIR GT, Had it since Nov 2022, 25,000 mostly highway miles on it. But its front drive unit has failed three times. This last failure was yesterday on a trip from Ft. Lauderdale Florida to Washington DC. It died along I-95 in Georgia, just north of Jacksonville. I waited six hours for a tow truck, which never came. In desperation I was able to drive it on the should to an off ramp. Car would only go about 2mph or less. I was able to get it into a gas station parking lot. As of today, it is still there, Lucid is supposed to transport it to the Tysons Corner, VA service center. From the way the car behaved I’m sure it is the front motor failure agaon. Love my Lucid but this may be the end for me. I’m also an investor and want the company to succeed but this experience has shaken me. Being stranded on the side of the road with no help was traumatic. Perhaps a larger more established company would have been more effective in helping. BTW I am an old man, have never driven it in swift mode since purchasing the car.

This sounds awful for both of you--sorry this happened to you.

That's pretty crummy, hopefully they at least hooked you up with another Air loaner. If you care to share, where are you located (roughly)? Wondering which service center is having so much trouble with this.

Man that stinks - sorry to hear. Not meaning to rub salt in the wound, but there is nothing that requires you to wait for Lucid roadside assistance - after a reasonable amount of time I’d just get a tow truck on my own to avoid sitting around all day. I know it sucks - shouldn’t have to deal with this, but sh** happens. Might cost some money but I’d fight that out with Lucid after the fact if I had to - and I definitely would have AAA as a backup.

I had to deal with a front drive unit failure last month. Because it happened in the evening, I had AAA tow it to my house. The next morning, Lucid arranged for a tow up to Costa Mesa. It took 2 1/2 weeks to analyze the problem and replace the front drive unit and then they towed it back to my house. A Lucid loaner wasn't available, but I got a really nice rental while it was in service. I had 36K relatively trouble free miles on it when it happened, so it was really unexpected. I can't imagine it happening again, let alone twice more. @Car Guy, I feel bad for you.

sounds like they are willing to spend a lot of money to fix the problem, new motor and battery (!). it's so odd that they have an issue with a bolt that they can't address, would seem that all mounting and parts reassembly on a new model should be fairly straightforward. esp with only 2,500 miles, that doesn't seem like enough time to wear out any threads or create rust that would cause issues. hoping for the best (but I can also see how they are hesitant to replace an entire car when it's only 1 (big) part that's an issue on an otherwise new car). puzzling. fingers crossed!

Would this issue be covered after the 4 yr 50k warranty?
My Air finally arrived in the Tysons Corner, VA service center. It took Lucid one week to get the car towed. I ended up completing my journey in a 2025 Totyota Camry. I’m not sure what I’ll do, thought about trading it for a 2025 Air, but I’m kind of afraid of the brand. How can front drive units keep failing? I know when Porsche had major issues with its early Taycans they bought them back quickly and were able to silence the automotive press about their flawed cars. Lucid seems to be ignoring customers with major issues. Not a good look for a high end manufacturer.

Update on my third drive unit failure. My car failed most recently on May 21, stranding me in rural Georgia on I-95. After waiting over five hours for assistance, I drove my car (at 2mph max speed) off the interstate and into a gas station. Lucid was unable to move my car to a repair center for a full week. Lucid was unable to provide me with a rental car. I was abandoned by Lucid. Today I was told my car has finally been repaired. So three weeks without my car. The maintenance personnel have been diligent and responsive, so no fault to them. On June 2 I wrote to Lucid Headquarters Customer Service asking that they replace my car with a new Air. No reply has been received. I love my Air GT, purchased in Nov. 2022. It has just over 24,000 miles. Don’t know whether I can trust this car after three major failures. Don’t know what to do. I own stock in Lucid Motors so want the company to succeed, but I honestly can’t recommend them after this experience.

That's awful man. Sorry that happened to you. I'm sure this would be covered under a warranty or even Lemon law type situation, right?

Sorry that happened. Lucid service here is definitely better than service there. Even if they don't have a Lucid to loan you, they cover the cost of a rental for the time you're without your car.

I got my car back from Lucid Service yesterday. The service technicians have been excellent, conscientious and courteous, keepimg me informed of progress. The car seems to be running fine. However, there is body damage to the front passenger door, I assume this was caused when the car was towed from Georgia to Virginia.. Someone put white paint over the scrap, but the door is dented and paint surface broken to bare metal. Lucid said nothing to me about this. I’m shocked and dismayed, hardly caring service from what is supposed to be an upmarket brand.

I have a 2023 Air Touring and Wednesday was the first time my car left me stranded since picking her up in December 2022 and currently with 11,000 miles. Lucid sent a flatbed truck to pick her up and my service technician advised me today that the rear drive unit needs to be replaced and that I'll need to wait until Monday for them to get together with parts and get an estimated time to fix. The car is amazing and I absolutely love driving her (when it's not in for repairs). My understanding is that by the end of the year, my Lucid warranty will be expiring and I'm concerned about how expensive future repairs may be should additional issues come up. If my rear drive unit needed to be replaced out of warranty, I don't imagine that such repairs would be inexpensive. Are there any other owners out there concerned about keeping their Lucid Air beyond the warranty period and are there any current owners of the Air beyond the 3-year period and how is your car holding up? For reference, my Jag convertible is almost 10 years old and has been in the repair shop less than my Lucid and my Lexus has been bulletproof. I tend to buy cars that I love and keep them for a long time, rather than replace them with the next new thing so I have nothing in mind to replace my Air.

Yes but the main question does it include labor ? My guess it should

Someone has to call lucid and ask
If your motor fails within the 8 year warranty, it includes any and all costs associated with replacing the defective motor.

It’s not just a parts warranty.
