Android Auto Thursday

Here we are friends, for another edition of Happy Android Thursday. We all know it's going to happen but the anticipation is killing us🤣🤣🤣
Is it? I mean why ruin that anticipatory feeling.

Android Automotive with native Google Maps, voice Assistant (soon to be Gemini LLM) and an app store is perfect for a primary daily driver.
Kinda wish Lucid went this route with Android Automotive and I doubt they'd consider it in the near future, if anything, I just want avoid tolls in maps

I am very interested in buying a new Lucid and am eagerly awaiting Android Auto before I do so. I was very surprised to learn of all of the delays but am cautiously hopeful that the most recent guidance will end up being correct. Thanks for all of the updates in this thread!

The AIR car is fun to drive and fun to look at and very quiet and comfortable. I have given up on waiting for fixes/features like AA, V2L or a smoothly working entry/exit system.

All of the above I am sure will be fixed in the upcoming lucid Air 2 model year 2030 😂

Happy Android Auto Thursday!!!!!

Smoothly working entry/exit?

Is it too optimistic to think Android Auto will be better integrated into the system than Apple Carplay? Perhaps the holdup for initial certification was Lucid did not have a robust enough approach? Hoping that after all this waiting we get some perks

I believe one of the biggest causes for delay on this release is that screen's form factor. Essentially, it's a custom resolution and Google needs to release/validate for it. I remember watching the video about Gravity's screens and the engineer mentioned they learned a lot from Air and how to design the screens as a result.

I imagine the integration will ultimately be the exact same as any car with Google (nothing custom), but will fit on the right-side screen properly. If they surprise us with UX3.0 along with AA for the Air, I think that would be the best best case scenario, but I'm not holding my breath on that one.

That's interesting, thank you. Perhaps a bit off topic, but I'm surprised the car running on Android Automotive doesn't lend to some perks when using Android Auto.... I know Google had noted that Gemini would be rolled out to a number of vehicles (notably, Lucid was not on the list) for Android Auto before they do the Android Automotive rollout. Hopefully they can at least check that box upon release.

Best case, AA google maps would integrate the EV version of maps including SOC estimate at destination and pre-conditioning when l3 charging is the destination for example. That would be amazing but I'm not sure that's been done on AA (Vs native AAOS on polestar for example).

I know they sound similar but they are completely independent. I agree it’s confusing.

I have decided not to wait, and taken AA into my own hands. I decided that what I really wanted NOW was :

1- Access to waze, including voice directions through the car sound system; 2 - A good Music Player that played all 2500 pieces of my music through the car sound sytem, 3 - A responsive, easy to understand and use touch screen, and 4 - Not blocking or taking away any existing car functionality.

What I did was bought an 11" Android 15 tablet (smaller would also have worked) and a cup holder tablet mount, with lots of degrees of freedom. The results are shown I the pictures below.

I still have to do some tweaking, but the good news is tha tthe tablet descends down into the glove compartment partially, making it more stable and less obtrusive. Android 15 permits a split screen, so when I set that up, I will be able to see Waze and the music menu at the same time.

A downside: The tablet has no web connectivity so Waze traffic updates are not available. I can fix that by using my phone separately for that, or mirroring my phone sreen to the tablet, or using the phone as a hotspot, or getting a cell equipped tablet.

Cheers, Steve
