Cool new key fob for Gravity... hopefully for Air too? (pics)

You can turn off proximity lock and unlock in your car's settings.
Then push the car door handle to lock or unlock.
OK, tried it, the push handle to unlock works great (thank you, advice much appreciated), but it doesn't work for locking because the handles are sticking out when I get out of the car, and I think I would break something if I was to push it down? I tried with both "passive lock on" and "passive lock off" and they always stick out when I exit the car. What would be great is if the unlock icon on the left side of the panel changed to a lock icon when the door was open which you could touch so that the door locked after you exited and closed the door (as is the case on most US cars built in the last 30 years). I am stunned that on such a high-tech car, something so silly as keyless entry can be so fubar.

When the handles are sticking out, the car is unlocked. You can push them in to lock the car. That's how they are intended to operate.

Must admit I am too chicken to force down the handle from the unlock position, but I have found a workaround that does exactly what I want. Have disabled the passive unlock and have left the passive lock enabled. When exiting the car, I hit the lock icon on the pilot panel (the one in the center console, not the one to the left of the steering wheel) with the driver's door ajar, and when I close the door, the car is immediately locked; it doesn't actually go to sleep until I walk away. When I return, I just push the door handle and the car unlocks. No futzing around with the key fob, no "I'll catch you up - I need to go back because the car hasn't locked itself" and I don't have to worry about the Supermarket cart boy finding the car on and unlocked and joyriding around the parking lot! Even if it doesn't go to sleep when I walk away, I guess that the car staying on until I get back won't hurt anything.
I am now a happy camper! A real key fob with buttons would be great, but for the time-being, this work-around is all I need.

Glad you've found a solution you like!

You wouldn't be forcing the handle mechanism by pressing on the handle when the car is unlocked. The handle is held out by a spring, and you'd just be compressing the spring when you press the handle in. Press the handle in until it stops, when it is flush with the body. It's not fragile.

For what it’s worth, I’ve pressed in the door handle to lock and unlock the car since the day I bought it. No issues.

OK, you've convinced me, I'll try that tomorrow. I just didn't want to do something that would put the car out of action for a while and leave me with a non-warranty repair bill. I actually read the manual, and it doesn't say you can do this even though it solves one of the main issues that many people complain about (especially the reviewers).

I noticed that too. I think it's an oversight @marqie .
