2 week review and Winter tire issue

My experience with range in cold weather, 26 degrees F, is about the same.
@MoniputerLM I see you also have an EQS. How do you find the efficiency between the EQS vs Lucid in 1) the cold 2) warmer, ideal weather? I'm also looking to buy an EQS580 SUV for my wife and thought that that range was quite decent for the size of the car.
 
Would you mind sharing exactly what you purchased?
I purchased Sparco DRS 19" wheels + Bridgestone Blizaak LM005 + TPMS. I think they look decent...

I disagree. BMW, Porsche etc. all offer the option of ordering All Season or Summer tires when ordering their cars.

A lot of owners do not want to order the 19 inch wheels because many feel they do not look as good as the 20's or 21's. In addition, you give up some cornering ability and braking distance with the smaller wheel/tire combination.

I also feel at this price point, Lucid should have given their supplier instructions to design both summer and all season tires for the standard wheels that come with the Dream and GT's, or ordering with the Touring and Pure.

Too many owners live in climates where winter precludes driving the summer tires. And charging $185 to adjust the TPMS(2x per year) when you have no choice because you can't drive in the winter seems wrong to me.
agreed! I wanted 21" wheels but there was no option from factory to order with all season
 
BMW and Porsche are well established entities, hard to put Lucid in the same category in 2022.

We are talking about a company that struggled to get the first batch out the door (DE) and then to get enough logistics in place to get the GT and GT-P cars produced in any volume. For my GT-P I wasn't able to order 19 inch wheels period (you can for a GT).

To be direct, going with the 21 inch winter tires, considering the short sidewalls in places like Chicago is not money well spent. When my car was delivered, they didn't even have the 20 inch wheel shipping so not an option then. I agree they should get a winter tire selected for the 20s. I also believe the take rate for winter wheels and tires may be limited. Many folks are fine with all seasons and call it a day.

I believe the TPMS charge would be one time. The 2 times a year charge would be for the wheel swaps. I actually like having my higher power cars in front of a technician a couple of times a year to see if something is going on. Small change cost relative to these six figure cars. Our OP shared that for the nice, friendly folks in Canada, it cost around $300K to enjoy this car. Is it really worth saving $185 to have to stare at the stupid warning light on the dash half the year?

I don't particularly like the design of the 19s myself. I went with them because the local facility told me they would not touch anything non factory specified (clearly other service centers are handling it differently, in my work world I refer to this as Geppetto's workshop, many people doing the same job, none of them doing it the same way) and it's Chicago and we will have winter. At least Lucid created one Winter set up and made it easy to buy directly. They even brought my Summer wheels to my home for storage and left me some really nice towels to keep them separated (no charge). For my Gen 2 NSX and my LC 500 Convertible I was on my own to figure out winter wheel and tire set ups, and we are talking about Auto powerhouses Honda and Toyota.
My service advisor told me that he thinks that the charge/reprogramming would need to occur everytime the wheels were changed, at least until it is written in the software. He did pass it along to headquarters though.

We haven't driven the EQS in cold weather but in general, the EQS is much more accurate in telling me how many miles are left and seems to get equal to the EPA rating. Also, we like the AMG EQS much better than the EQS 580. The EQS has almost no "vampire drain".

how about in terms of efficiency (e.g. mi/kWh) in real world?
 
$185 for a software reflash that will take a whole day seems excessive. Many people on this forum have changed their rims and wheels. No one has mentioned this before. It’s possible your advisor is mistaken.

I changed wheels using the same tire and tpm sensor with no issue. TPM sensors picked right up. Goose Island wasn't certain that it would. The work was done at an outside shop as the wheels are custom.

When ordering all seasons tires 2 wks ago, a different outside shop indicated they could do the work but no outside shop has the programing to sync the tpm sensors at this time. They indicated they contacted Lucid and this is what was shared. That may not be the case forever but it appears so now.
 
Thanks for sharing this info. You being in Blaine means that I should expect to get similar efficiency as you. 3mi/kWh translates into 4.8 km/kWh, which is still higher than I am getting, which is why I am getting my service centre to take a look at things to make sure my car isn't having some sort of issue. 4.1mi/kWh (or 6.5 km/kWh) would be exciting and certainly gives me something to look forward to or aim for.
Good luck and my fingers are crossed for you. I am afraid you will have to wait until the temps return to the upper 60s to lower 70s F to get the 6.5 km/kWh.

Tire Rack purchase, right? I got the same wheels and TPMS but ended up getting Vredestein Quatrac Pros. Mobile delivery and installation. I had my local service center in Seattle reset the TPMS at no charge. The service manager told me future software upgrades will allow them to sync automatically as they do on Teslas. Sorry to see you had to pay $185 for a service that frankly shouldn't need to be done. I wonder if that's a Canadian thing...

are you saying that your lucid SC sync'd the TPMS you purchased from TireRack to your car with no charge? They have to register the TPMS IDs to your car. My SC is charging me $185 to change the settings on my car to accomodate the 19" wheels (21s initially) and sync the tpms. They won't do the latter on its own.

Vancouver, BC owner here as well. I've driven 3000km so far and lifetime efficiency is 4.4 km/kwh, all city driving. I've stopped driving these past 2 weeks because of the lack of winter tires but when the temps were around 7C, I was getting an abysmal ~3km/kwh. I lose about 30-40% estimated range to heat, vampire drain, etc. I drive normal, max regen, smooth mode, 21" tires.

Thanks for sharing! I assume that most of your 3000km were driven at much milder temps than 7 degrees? hope lucid can address the significant non-driving battery drain through OTA update as I've read their BMS software could be optimized.

Fanboi alert in 3,2,1….I think it’s probably unfair to expect a better range riding on tires that are not approved by Lucid, with TPM that have not been properly calibrated. Say nothing of the extreme cold and high elevation of Vancouver.

You chose the wrong tires, plain and simple. Many people here have summer and winter tires and while I would also like to see Lucid give other tire shops the ability to make the swap, it is a strange hill to die on given the amount of info that is out there on this topic.
 
At 5:40 in the video he said if you leave the car heat on for both passengers you'd need 180 miles of charge to do 100 miles of driving at 72mph with an outside temp of 36. That's quite a hit to range with interior heating. I can't recall any of my 4 EVs taking that kind of hit when turning the heat on. Are his results typical for this kind of driving.

Not a video I'd show to convert ICE users to EVs.
