Long Post: My Gravity Purchase Experience and Why I Lost Confidence in the Sales Process

When I went looking through inventory for my Gravity, I found what became the car I ended up purchasing right away. And I secured it by choosing it when I put down my deposit.

My SA then offered some alternatives that were close to my spec, just as a courtesy. A few were 2026 models. Some of them would have saved me a few bucks, because the incentives were slightly better (for obvious reasons) on 2026 models. But in the end, the price difference wasn’t enough to make me give up the spec I actually wanted. (Note, we’re talking very similar configurations here. Just model year, color, wheels, interior color—that sort of thing.)

In my mind, the 2027 cars were slightly more likely to be better assembled, less likely to have any issues from sitting around a dusty Arizona lot for several months, etc. Plus, I really wanted two fobs, as I will be sharing this car with my spouse.

If the price difference had been several thousand dollars, I would have considered it more seriously. Or if the car I had chosen hadn’t been exactly what I was looking for, in which case I was already compromising, that would have been different.

I just got lucky; exactly what I wanted was available and wasn’t more than a few hundred more than other options with all the incentives factored in.

I did need to choose from inventory to take advantage of my Air lease pull forward. Which is why I didn’t choose another Air. There was no Air available that was even close to what I would have wanted at the time.
Thanks, Joe! I have to make this decision in the next couple of months. My Air lease ends in July, and we're hell-bent on staying with Lucid 😎. This is my wife’s car, and she refuses to let me drive her Air or swap it for my iX. She ok with Gravity but feels it is too big and likes the Air styling a lot more. I prefer a Gravity because of the new platform and future-proof aspect compared to the current Air. How are you finding the Gravity? Do you miss your Air? I'd appreciate your thoughts and those of others who have been through the same dilemma.

My wife actually prefers the Gravity, despite her thinking the Air was too big. I know that sounds odd, but the Gravity just has better adjustments for driver position, steering wheel, etc. Visibility is slightly better. And with the dynamic handling, it even has a better turning radius than Air. So even though it’s technically larger and heavier, it doesn’t feel like it. If that makes sense.

I’d definitely recommend an overnight test drive if you can arrange it.

Personally, there are things about the Air I miss when it comes to driving dynamics. It’s still a sportier, more nimble feeling car at the end of the day. But Gravity is no slouch in that department, by any means. Especially in swift mode, it moves and handles far better than it has any right to.

And I agree with your wife that Air is better looking. But I’m biased towards sedans over SUVs. I think Gravity looks more like a large station wagon than a truck. And that I do like. I set the suspension to low pretty much 100% of the time.

Like you said, Gravity is just a bit more refined in every way than Air. The feel of the buttons. The materials inside. The programmable hardware buttons. The screen shape. They really did learn a lot from Air and applied it to Gravity. It’s a clearly better car technologically.

I test-drove a Gravity, did a bit of research and decided to buy about two days later. I went back to the mall where I did my test drive and was talking to the guy there (who I guess isn't a sales guy... I don't what to call him) about options and I told him I had looked at inventory and he told me "We have cars that don't appear on your list. What are you looking for?" I told him, and he found one. Then I talked to the sales guy in Phoenix and just gave him the VIN.

Thanks Joe! Very helpful. Will try for an overnight test drive.

We also went from Air to Gravity and have no regrets.
Everything technologically speaking is a step up, not counting the HUD which, of course, doesn't exist in the Air
My back also appreciates the Gravity.
We miss the efficiency and the range of the Air, though.
And the Air does look better than the Gravity.

I recently leased a 2026 Lucid Gravity Touring and wanted to share my purchase experience, particularly for anyone considering taking delivery near the end of a promotional month.
First, I want to make one thing clear. I really like my Gravity.
This post is not about the vehicle itself. It is about the sales experience and the information that influenced my decision about when to take delivery.

I had already decided to wait for September

On August 23, after discussing the purchase with my wife, I emailed my Lucid Sales Advisor and told him we had decided to cancel our current order and wait for the September deals.
I wasn't walking away from Lucid. In the same email, I wrote:

At that point, my plan was clear. I was going to wait a few more days and see what September brought.
On August 24, I specifically asked what would happen if Lucid introduced a significantly better promotion beginning September 1, just a few days after my planned delivery.

My Sales Advisor correctly explained that Lucid did not offer price protection.
He also wrote:

He then wrote:

Those statements mattered to my decision.
At the time, the 2026 model year inventory I was personally seeing also appeared very limited.
Based on the information available to me, I reconsidered my decision to wait and ultimately took delivery on August 29.

Then September 1 arrived

Three days later, Lucid's September incentives for 2026 model year vehicles changed.
For my particular circumstances, I calculated the potential difference at approximately $3,500, consisting of an additional $2,500 Lucid Credit and a $1,000 Demo Credit.
I had completed a Lucid demo drive and placed my order the same day. Based on my reading of the September offer requirements, I believe I would have qualified for the Demo Credit had I ordered under the September program.

Of course I was disappointed.
But if my entire story were simply, “I took delivery on August 29 and Lucid offered a better deal on September 1,” I would consider that unfortunate timing and move on.
Promotions change. I understood that possibility when I signed my lease.
What bothered me much more was the inventory I personally observed.

What I saw with the inventory

I had been regularly checking Lucid's 2026 model year Gravity inventory before taking delivery and through the end of August.
The inventory I was seeing appeared quite limited.
On September 1, when I checked Lucid's inventory again, I personally observed substantially more 2026 model year Gravity inventory than I remembered seeing before the end of August.
Some of those vehicles were configurations I would have preferred.
My recollection is that there was actually more 2026 inventory displayed on September 1 than when I checked again on September 2.
There is one important limitation to what I can document.

I did not take screenshots on August 31 or September 1.

At the time, I trusted the information I had received and had no reason to think I would later want a record of Lucid's inventory pages.
I began taking screenshots on September 2, when a substantial amount of 2026 model year Gravity inventory was still displayed.
So I can describe what I personally observed on September 1, but I cannot independently document the exact inventory difference between August 31 and September 1.
I also don't know why the inventory displayed on Lucid's website changed. There could be ordinary explanations such as cancellations, reallocations, vehicles being released into inventory, changes in availability status, or other inventory processes that I have no visibility into.

I am not alleging that Lucid intentionally withheld, concealed, or manipulated inventory. I don't have evidence that would allow me to make that claim.

I'm simply sharing the sequence I personally experienced:

August 23: I told Lucid in writing that I had decided to wait for September.
August 24: After specifically asking about the possibility of better September incentives, I was told that incentives had generally remained similar in my Sales Advisor's experience and that the greater concern was diminishing and undesirable inventory, with most California inventory already sold out.
August 29: I took delivery.
September 1: The potential incentives applicable to my circumstances improved by approximately $3,500, and I personally observed substantially more 2026 model year Gravity inventory than I remembered seeing before the end of August.
September 2: A substantial amount of 2026 model year inventory was still displayed, and I began documenting it with screenshots.

That sequence, rather than simply missing a promotion by three days, is what caused me to lose confidence in the sales process.

Lucid reviewed my concerns

I raised the matter with Lucid and eventually had a lengthy conversation with a Director in Lucid's Customer Experience organization.
I appreciated that he took the time to listen and later provided Lucid's position to me in writing.
I asked that the complete circumstances receive one final review at the senior leadership level.
Lucid subsequently confirmed to me in writing that my experience and concerns had been reviewed by its senior leadership team, including the circumstances surrounding my purchase and my inventory concerns.
Lucid ultimately decided not to provide a post delivery adjustment.
Lucid did provide me with an additional $500 merchandise credit as a goodwill gesture, which I received and appreciate.
I think it's important to include that because I want to present Lucid's response fairly.

Why I'm sharing this

I'm not saying Lucid legally owed me $3,500.
I'm not saying my Sales Advisor knew what the September incentives would be.
And I'm not alleging that Lucid intentionally manipulated or concealed inventory.

I'm sharing what happened because I had already decided to wait for September, reconsidered after receiving specific information about incentives and limited inventory, and then only days after taking delivery encountered both different incentives and a substantially different 2026 model year inventory picture.

That experience affected my confidence in the sales process.
I have retained the original August 23 email, my August 24 email and the Sales Advisor's response, my September 2 inventory screenshots, and Lucid's written responses confirming the senior leadership review.
I'm happy to share the relevant documentation if someone has a genuine interest in seeing it.

Most importantly, I'd like to hear from anyone who was actually shopping for a Lucid around August 31 or September 1.
Did you notice a significant change in the displayed 2026 Gravity inventory around September 1?
Were you given similar information about limited 2026 inventory near the end of August?
If anyone happened to take inventory screenshots around August 31 or September 1, I'd be particularly interested in comparing what you saw.

I still really like my Gravity. I'm sharing this because I think other buyers should know about my experience, and I'm genuinely interested in whether anyone else observed something similar.
Boohoo…. After I bought prices dropped 10k.. that’s how life is. Move on.

Was this necessary? We were having a perfectly pleasant conversation here until you showed up and had to be a jerk.

Even the "internal inventory" is limited; there are very very few 7-seaters available, and most are missing packages. The fact that a fully loaded GGT showed up on the public site after I asked two advisors to please notify me if it showed up in their internal inventory, was complete luck on my part. I never received a call. It just.. appeared.

It’s a bit like buying an iPhone and then they drop the price the next month. It’s how it works. I’m sorry he could have gotten a better price if he waited, but that’s how it is. It’s nothing to complain about. Lots of people bought cars and then they drop the price next month. Regarding inventory, no one can tell the future. It’s a decision he made, and to assume the sales people know exactly what incentives next month would give or what the inventory will be….they don’t. At that time, that was the information they had.

And why should Lucid try to sell vehicles at a lower price than what they can get? It’s a game that every company in the world plays. You roll the dice.

I sympathize with the OP, I would be upset as well, but, I’m confused….why blame Lucid sales in the title, yet OP says sales person did nothing wrong. Incentives change, inventory changes. You decide if you are happy with the price and specs or if you want to take the risk and wait till September.

I’m upset I bought my Lucid Air before better incentives came out, I even took a higher trim than I wanted to take earlier delivery- as suggested by the salesman. Next month they had better incentives. Ok, that sucks, that’s life. I moved on. Lucid did nothing wrong. Nothing to complain about. It was my choice. That’s how businesses work- get the best price you can, hide your cards.

Three posts in and you've managed to argue against a position nobody in this thread took.

The OP said up front he isn't claiming Lucid owed him anything, isn't blaming his SA, and isn't alleging inventory games. He asked for data points from other buyers, got pushback from members, and thanked them civilly. The thread was doing exactly what a forum should.

Then "Boohoo."? It added nothing!

It’s okay to just “let it go” sometimes. You do not always have to post and comment on every thread if you have nothing useful to contribute.
