Has anyone seen this post on reddit? This guy claims he's been able to remove service mode on a few cars remotely but his account has been banned right away and his account from a few days ago when he posted something similar has also been banned. If it does end up being real though this could be great for lucid seeing more cars on the road despite them not being serviceable and updatable.

I can't imagine a scenario where plugging a Russian blackbox into anything would be great for anybody.

Well he isn’t selling anything, he just says to buy any random media converter you want, and same thing with the wiring. I think this is the same Ukrainian guy we’ve been slightly hearing about, some people saying he could do it but nothing concrete, not Russian.

Yeah I’ve heard about it. I’d be worried id mess it up and I can’t even imagine the cost to repair that.
Considering Lucid wants $50k sometimes it'd be good for cases like that where it can't really get much worse, definitely not my cup of tea though but still an overall good thing in my opinion.

Basically a hack, jailbreak kinda stuff.

With unknown architecture and firmware? Jailbreaking a phone is child’s play compared to doing so with everything unknown.
So it’s going to take some resources to do this. Could be done and at such a low low price what’s not to lose except $60 and maybe property damage and lives?

But yes some kind of hack is what is being offered.

FYI out of service mode doesn’t equal fully functioning.

I am totally against this kind of hack as it puts potential threat to occupants and everyone around. Lucid is not asking $50k to make money, they are enouraging people to buy safe product from official source.

That's not on the car manufacturer and never has been. Road safety is on the NHTSA and DMV or equivalent organizations. There also isn't a product from an official source to buy, especially for these fans buying Lucids outside of countries where Lucid operates. It absolutely should be possible to get a salvaged Lucid back on the road (and without Lucid's help), it should just go through safety testing like any other car. Whether that safety testing/inspection is sufficient is another matter.

I mean people have been repairing cars on their own for as long as they've been around, I don't see why there's now a need to have such an inordinate fee to have a car be "brought back to spec". I understand Tesla's philosophy of banning cars without a check from charging at their stations, but even then they only ask a few thousand to let them have access to chargers or you can just drive it knowing you can't use public chargers. I think not even letting people drive their car after even minor accidents is what's wrong.
