2026 Lucid Gravity GT
Hi:
I am just tossing this out to see if anyone has any ideas: over the past 3.5 years, I have been driving Lucid cars. I went from an Air Touring to (currently) a Gravity GT. We live in the Hudson Valley. My driving routine takes me through backroads that are somewhat winding (45 MPH max) to the interstate. Unfortunately, I get complaints from passengers sitting in the back seat of motion sickness. It tends to happen on the backroads. Prior to these Lucids, I used to drive an Audi A7 and I didn't get any (or as many) complaints. While carsickness is not that unheard of and can depend on a lot of things, my research tells me that there seems to be more complaints around EVs than ICE cars.

Does anyone have any suggestions to improve the situation?

Thanks!

It's usually from regenerative braking. You won't feel the jerkiness as much as passengers because you're in control, but unless you're mindful about smooth acceleration and deceleration, it can feel jerky for passengers.

Edit: So, your options are (a) turning it off, (b) leaving it at high and being careful or (c) leaving it at standard so it's easier to modulate.

It's more than likely the regen. Do you have it set on high? If so, turn it to low or off and see if that helps. As I have mine set to high I warn people who get into the back seat to let me know if they start feeling sick and I'll turn it down. It's a known EV tradeoff, not limited to just Air or Gravity

There's actually a study about motion sickness in EVs. The brain is trained for our entire history of riding in cars based on motion and noises that we have experienced over time. As the vast majority of our time has been spent in ICE cars the brain is expecting the same audible and motion cues. As EVs are a completely different experience the brain simply doesn't respond as efficiently. It's not specific to Lucid.

Mind sharing that study? I want to give that a read

I've driving with Regen on high for many years, but actually a few weeks ago I changed it to Standard and I found that the drive is way more pleasant; smoother but with enough Regen that causes me to use the brakes only occasionally. I have a GGT.

Regen barely does anything anyways. Not worth it.

Here's something from Out of Spec from last year:
i'm not sure I buy into the theory about the lack of combustion engine noise in an EV really being a factor, it's a vestibular thing.

sadly, I'm a member of the population lucky enough to get (rapid acceleration) motion sickness even while being the driver. Though even watching the spinning top in the movie "Inception" can set me off. ;)

I've read in other articles (which were referencing studies) that the car noise is part of the reason. Not 100% sure I believe this but it is something that is quite different than an ICE car (although modern ICE cars can be fairly quiet, they aren't as quiet as EV's and the Gravity is exceptional quiet in the cabin)

We have had a lot of motion sickness challenges with EV radiation in the first few weeks of our first Tesla a few years ago. It definitely has to do with regen braking in our opinion. The regen forces the energy to go back to the battery and creates a lot more EMF radiation than an ICE car. However, to counter this, we have found that a simple 100$ trick can help. Again, please see what works for you. For us, putting this Shungite pyramid in the car (as large as you car) helps reduce the EMF. Over the span of 2-3 days the EMF tries to avoid where the SHungite is and ends up getting rid of the motion sickness. if and when we remove the shungite pyramid, the motion sickness and fatigue seems to come back right away (even people that did not know that the pyramid was removed complain).

Just sharing an opinion, research, and what has worked for us.

I am glad that it works for you, but there is no evidence the a carbon rich pyramid will change the EMF in the car unless maybe you are inside the pyramid.
