Not to pick on you because a lot of other folks say this as well, but I don't understand why so many people think the EV market is a race to see who is first. In the US, just ~8% of 2025 sales were EVs and people only buy cars every 6-8 years, on average. There is a lot of space for new entrants and, correspondingly, it will likely take 5+ more years before a true, long-term market leader emerges. In summary, it's irrelevant that other cars have been released before Cosmos.

Adding to this, it's also important to recognize that there are markets outside of the US as well, so consumer preferences will change depending on where you look

Well I don't feel like you're picking on me but I would disagree on the release date as being irrelevant. I would say there is some pent up demand for an alternative to the Tesla Model Y. The backlog will reduce as alternatives are introduced. I'll give you an example; I own a Porsche Boxster GTS with a stick. It's a damn fun car but I prefer EV's for the environmental, refinement, etc., etc. Whoever offers the first EV roadster in the USA will get an order from me, excepting something like a Ferrari Whoever is second to offer one will not get an order from me because I will have already purchased one.

sounds to me you'd like a Longbow Speedster then.

Also don't forget that customers can convert and change their minds. It's not like if someone gets a specific model they're stuck with it for eternity. Or if they wrap up their lease they'll be stuck with the same company.

I forget another example. I ordered a Porsche Cayenne S EV at the start of the year. If the Cosmos was available and was not problematic I bet I would've bought one instead. I know the Porsche with torque vectoring, 4WS and Porsche's steering feel will be more to drive but it is also nearly 3X the cost and the dealerships sevice department are sheisterish. After I spend my $150K I'm sure as hell gonna ride that pony for a long while.
 
Is it just me or is there only about 6" of rear glass?

it looks like the rear glass extends from the roof antenna, past the rear spoiler, all the way down to the bodywork just above the Lucid logo

I don't see it that way because when I look at the side view what you think is glass I think is a panel that is also the spoiler. I'm thinking since the veil has been lifted Lucid will soon be forced to show the real beast and we will know for sure.

Uh, the race for first is long over. The Model Y won, and Tesla is reaping the benefit from being the first mover. Depending on what reporting you believe, it's been either the first or second bestselling vehicle in the world, neck and neck with the RAV4, for the past few years.

And like you said, people buy cars every 6-8 years. The people buying new midsize EVs within the next couple of years are customers who can't even consider the Cosmos. Those are the customers that Lucid desperately needs. Not only that but, reportedly, 50% of car buyers are brand loyal. The Toyota bz, after all its updates, is still a pretty mediocre EV but it's now the 2nd bestselling EV in the US just because it's a Toyota (and it's pretty cheap).

The longer Lucid takes to produce the Cosmos at volume, the more time it gives the established brands to release their own EV CUV and a reason for that brand's customers to stay loyal to that brand. This is a race for Lucid to stay alive, unless the PIF is committed to shoveling more cash at the company.

I think there are two pieces of glass. One that is pretty raked that extends down to the spoiler/bodywork then another smaller, vertical, piece. It kind of reminds me of the hatch of the old Hyundai Ioniq Hybrid.

I would say those images, even if they are AI, show alot of rear glass is feasible.
 
I also don't take anything for granted in this era.

While confirming the designers were actual Lucid people like Derek, Jenny, and others, I came across Simon Tovey's LinkedIn background image which I think is pretty awesome. 😄

Based on the patent drawings and the renderings I'm gonna bet 90% of the USA will favor the Rivian R2 look but the rest of the world may be more attuned to the Cosmos. Rest of world is for sure a bigger piece of the pie.
