Window Closing Problems

My wife tried driving the Gravity (upgraded to 3.6.0 a few days ago, but may be unrelated). Driver's window came down halfway all by itself. She was able to lower it, but can't get it to go all the way up. Given it came down by itself, I'd guess it's a software glitch rather than a bad motor or pinch sensor (although I guess the latter could fire by itself even if not actively closing?). Mad scramble to find another car because she doesn't want to leave the driver's window open while she's out.

I come home and tried to fix it. Sure enough, window goes down and won't go more than halfway up. When opening the door, it comes down a little. After playing with it a while, I close it completely and it never comes up at all (can't hear the motor engage at all). Button appears non-functional.

After many, many more resets, including walk away, come back later, it works again. No idea why, but the last walk away/come back fixed it. When we first bought the car, I had a possibly similar issue where the right 2nd row window was left open. I was pretty certain I closed all the windows, so I theorized it came down by itself. We were camping and it rained, so that wasn't fun.

My question is: if this happened to you, did it happen again soon? We'd like to take the car out camping again, and if it rains, I'd prefer to close the windows. In any case, I'll bring a tarp to cover the car, which has the added benefit of keeping the pollen off.

Lucid SW folks if you are listening: I appreciate you are working on stability. Recent builds have been great. Can you add a diagnostics mode (similar to the other big unnamed EV company) that is available to end users and gives us hints when things go wrong? I assume you already have tons of telemetry/logging that is not user visible.

This has been happening to the passenger side window for two weeks now. I have a service call in and waiting for a return callback (initially called Friday and waited 30 minutes for a human, it’s now Sunday) you can inch up the window till it’s just touching the weather strip but resets won’t fix it. On occasion the drivers side window does this out of sympathy I guess.

FWIW, this was mentioned in the announcement thread by @marqie as a known issue, so Lucid is at least aware and working on it.

Update: I went out to the car today and the window was slightly open. Every time I open the door, it comes down, but doesn't go up when the door is closed. The new lower height is now the limit. I can use the button to roll down the window, but it won't go back up above the new limit. And sometimes the new limit is slightly lower (possibly the amount the wondow goes down when you open it). I was unable to inch up the window (which would have been an acceptable workaround, assuming it doesn't spontaneously come down by itself). This reaffirms my belief that it's not a hardware/sensor issue, as the window seems to move quickly until it stops (at exactly the same, newer, lower spot). Counter theories welcome.

I'm disappointed and saddened that the car has this many software issues. My other car, a Tesla Model 3, is also has bugs (and really questionable functionality/UI design decisions), but it works, even with the original 2018 software. I'm finding it harder and harder to recommend this car to my friends, as I would never put them through this experience. My current service appointment is in September for the recall and fit & finish items. I hope they can see me earlier since we are unlikely to use the car if the window can't close or spontaneously opens.

Please fix the bugs before PaaK or other features. I want to reach feature parity with other EVs, but if you can't get the basics right, tons of cool features won't overcome it. Hire a few devs to enhance remote diagnostics, instrumentation, telemetry, logging, etc., etc. IMO, this is not a mythical man month issue and can be added in parallel. It will be more cost effective long term. I think you have a community that loves their Gravities, and would be willing to assist with infotainment / non-system critical issues. If it's a known issues/solution that just needs some polish, that's great. But if the core issue is still unknown or the fix isn't fully understood, can we help by reproducing the problem with our cars? Is there anything I can do to help?

They’re aware of these issues you just have to get the car into service for them to work on. There is a fix I’m sure.

YIKES. I get that working directly with a customer to test the brakes would be legally risky, but "small problems" should be OK with appropriate limitations and a waiver.

UPDATE: longer reset (walk away with key). and the window is fully closed, but now the button has no effect (up, half or full press). Opening the door causes the window to go down slightly (and closing the door, it goes back up). But if the door is open/closed, the button doesn't do anything. I'll try another long reset.

I hope they have a fix. The problems with the driver door just started with 3.6.0, but that could be coincidence.

While this scenario is plausible and many people have assumed this is the case, we don’t really know. He could have gotten a huge offer that he couldn’t refuse and walked away. Those who do know aren’t talking.

Back to the window closing problem, it’s a known issue covered in the release notes, as @borski mention. I hope it gets fixed soon.

What moral rights do I have to complain about my windows moving in the opposite direction of the issued command compared to OP's inability to close the window at all?
I should consider myself lucky that my Gravity fully closes the window after merely 2 times of pulling up on the lever.

I took the comments as a bit of sarcastic humor. Actually kind of funny.

This happened to me after the 3.6.0 update. I would recommend doing the following. Roll down the window completely. Then hold the button down for three seconds. Then lift the button back to roll the window back up. Please note that the window does come down a bit when the door is opened and rolls back up completely once the door is closed.

How convinced are you it's a direct result of 3.6.0? While ours started several days after the upgrade, we actually didn't drive much during that time. Of course it's probably academic at this point since there's no roll-back of software, which would be a useful data point.

Unfortunately, I tried multiple combinations of holding the button up/half-down/full-down for 5, 10, 20 seconds. No change. Plus the fact that sometimes the button is completely non-functional at times.

After several reboots (the walk away type, wont the button/brake combo), it seems to work now. However, the issue later comes back and I need to reboot again. I haven't detected a pattern yet.

I'd take your scenario over mine if it's consistent. Or even if it's inconsistent but the window always moves in some direction!

Do you think your issue is hardware or software related? Did someone accidentally swap the wires or is it some weird software bug?

100% a software bug, Lucid has listed it being in the works for a future update. Many owners report exact same issue, so it's not rare and likely not related to hardware, at least not directly.
My job is to sarcastically comment on such glaring software quality issue until it gets enough attention inside Lucid to resolve. I have plenty of respect for complex engineering issues, moving a window up and down is not one of them.

It doesn't sound like rocket science, although I do appreciate that it's probably more complex than I realize. Things like calibrating the pinch sensors (at different temps, and friction levels), start/end positions, etc., etc. But I completely agree that it should just work. Currently the window is closed, but when opening the door, it retracts much less than all the other doors (but still clears the frame so I'll take it). Window behavior been solved by almost every other car I've seen in a reliable and robust manner.

The exception, of course, is my Tesla Model 3. The software seems fine, but they chose to wire the window with the door puddle light somehow (in series?). So, if the puddle light goes out or has a loose connection, when you close the door, the window stays in a fully extended position. The glass hits the frame instead of seating properly (I have some nice scratches, but thankfully the window doesn't shatter). They probably saved a few cents instead of creating a parallel connection. Ugh.

Somehow it seems to forget the position of the window or something, as it doesnt remember to go down slightly when you open the door, then when you try to close the door, it wont close because the window is too high. Now ive put the window all the way down and it stopped responding to any inputs, so its stuck down..

Just walked away for a bit and came back, was finally able to get the window up again. There must be some nuance with the gravity's internal network/bus that causes it to get in some kind of stuck state. Same thing happened when I pressed the 2nd row button a bunch of times and it eventually just stopped responding.
