Every week before commuting to work I have been charging my Air GT to 100%. By now my car has 75,000 miles. The last few times I’ve charged to 100% on my Lucid wallcharger at home, I get the message, “Charging Completed”. However the charging has stopped at 99% instead of the preset 100%.

Is this normal for a car of this age and mileage?

Has it stopped at 99 or do you simply see it at 99 when you check in the morning?

I set my charging to stop at 80 but often when I see it in the morning it’s at 79. There are a lot of things going on with the car, climate control, car waking up to check for updates etc. I think this difference is normal.

More telling will be how much as your range has dropped over that 75k miles.

I've always had the issue where I get the message the charge is complete (I charge to 80%) and when I disconnect the cable and go to drive the car, it's at 79%. It's always been like that for me so i just thought it was normal

My '25 with ~12k miles has the same behavior. I typically have mine set to 69% (for the lulz) and it'll read 68% when I pull out of the garage. I think this behavior changed from when I first got the car. Maybe they've changed how they round out the percentage - e.g 68.9% would have previously read as 69% but now they round it down to 68%. Just guessing.

The former. I time my charging to 100% to end at 20 to 30 minutes before I have to drive off. Are you saying that there’s a possibility that the charging really did hit 100% upon completion, but dropped to 99% shortly after?

I shall have to watch next week.

My range has dropped from 516 EPA rated miles to 508 rated miles, if my display’s information is to be believed.

Yes that possibily definitely exists but i would be surprised if it dropped in that interval. your best bet is to use this site that uses the lucid api to get the full nitty gritty details, if you are so inclined to check out the percentage without rounding.

Its built by some folks on this forum. You will need your lucid motors account password

That range is entirely within reason. 98.4% after 75K miles. i'm mildly envious of that.

i have 39k miles and my range at 100% is 414 when it was 425 new on my touring. Thats 97.4%

Thank you for posting the link. It’s been several months since I checked.

I have a 22 GT (19in wheels) as well, just got a little over 44K miles. When I charge to 80% now, it shows 401 miles, charging to 100%, it is 501 miles. Im going to be sad when charging to 100% is less than 500 miles 😭

For optimal battery health, don’t charge to 100% daily unless needed. See the daily-charge thread.

Agreed, if you leave the battery at 100% for long periods its especially bad. I make sure to be on the road within an hour or 2 at the most (generally i am on the road right away) once I hit 100%.

I challenge you to actually get 500.

*while not using the Nikola method
Whats the Nikolai method?

I know come winter on those especially cold days I wont be able to do my 230 mile commute on 100% battery soon. Even this last winter some days it barely made it back...I'll actually have to pay for charging! Ive had the car almost 4 years now and only paid for charging once.

Just by way of updating - so last night, just prior to driving off to work again, I got in my car, anchored myself to my seat like a frigate, and intently started watching the dash. I watched my dash display change to “100%. Charging Complete”. In that instant the car’s rated mileage was 506 miles.

Then, and I’m talking not more than several seconds later, the display changed to “99%. Charging Complete”. And the rated range dropped to 505 miles.

I’m wondering if this is just a software-thing.

I also looked on the API site. My battery health is at something like 98%, but I couldn’t be assed to do the maths on what that translated to in EPA rated miles. It was too much for me.

Rolling it downhill while pretending it’s under its own power 😂

I think it is a battery thing. The charger supplies energy until the battery gets to a certain voltage corresponding to 100% and stops. The ions have to move into the material matrix and this relaxes the surface state, i.e. the voltage drops ever so slightly.

It is less pronounced in trickle charging because equilibrium occurs gradually.

It is unsafe to "overcharge" to compensate for his effect.

If you want to test this, charge at the lowest rate possible for the last 2-3% to see if it stays high.

Thank you! I’ll try that next. I charge my car to 100% once a week, and only on my home charger. I never user DC fast charging to charge to 100%.
