How to get OTA updates

I am on 2.8.12 and my Air always says up to date. I turned Wifi off to fix a bug. I just turned WiFi back ON to see if it will update.

Any ideas?

Since you are either 2-3 versions behind depending on configuration, call customer support and ask them to push the latest version appropriate for your car.

Currently, there is no way to “check for updates” from the car.

You do NOT need to be connected to WiFi to get an update as long as you have good cellular reception. That said, you may get the update sooner if you connect to WiFi.

@limtless hope you didn't reject those previous updates and they were never pushed to you. if you had rejected it manually and let it lapse, they may be less than understanding. good luck.

This may be a complete waste of time, but if you are frustrated waiting for the update (or the update's update) to arrive, here's something you may want to check... I don't know if it was because of Lucid's desire to prioritize the wi-fi downloads, but for the first time, I did not receive the usual 'ready to install' notice for 2.9.0. Instead, what I noticed was a small white dot on/near the pilot panel's settings 'snowflake'. That prompted me to look around, and on the 'About' page (the one where you do a logo reset) I had a notification that 2.9.0 was ready to download. Note...

Please don't be fooled by any source saying you are 'up to date'. If I understand things correctly, any text on both the car and the app will look as though you are 'up to date' even if you have uninstalled updates, or if for some reason you never received the update at all. The Lucid Owner's web site just shows what it calls your 'software update history', and makes no mention of being 'up to date'. Once the download available reminders stop, I don't think you will ever see any more reminders to install until the next update.

Your best bet is to look at @Bobby's OTA Update web site, and see what you may be missing.

It's one thing to hold off on installing an update for a bit to see if any significant bugs are reported, but it's quite another to let them build up.

I was on 2.8.16 for quite a while as everyone received additional updates. I didn't care because my car was perfect, and you know the old saying "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." When 2.9.0 came out, I had to reach out to get the update, which required that I install 2.8.17 and 2.8.30 before installing 2.9.0. So I guess the lesson is that if you get left behind, speak up by calling customer service.

Totally agree. Expect how many know about this forum and Bobby’s site? The prevailing question out there is still what’s a lucid?

So if I was a less than informed customer I would normally ask a mechanic for an ice car or talk to a local dealer to get the car assessed. If lucid said they can’t release any information beyond stuff on the features of the car the buyer is still in limbo and may walk away. And add in the fact that we may have wholesale cars being sold then neither the seller nor the buyer has any clue.

I think it’s a short lift to show that you are truly up to date or show that you are behind but no longer receiving updates on the About area. I think I’m being reasonable.

I'm responsible for a few of those for sure and much respect for the effort that it takes to maintain it.

But, respectfully, i consider the lift to be small for the car to inform the user that it is behind on updates. Most certainly the information displayed in the vehicle should not mislead the prospective or current owner that is is up to date, when it *might* not be. As a sign of a good software interface, the capabilities of UI and what Lucid on demand via customer service should be sufficient to inform the user.

While communities like this and the tangential sites like lucidupdates.com and lucidtracker.app, bring tremendously value to the user base, Lucid should not be reliant on it as means of providing information to a prospective customer.

I contacted customer service yesterday regarding another matter. I inquired about my 2022 Lucid AGT not receiving the 2.9 update. They are apparently not pushing out updates but soon will be once some additional "robustness" is all tested and ready to go.

I am, even now, not clear on the OP (limitless) status. Buffalo Bob had posted about the "white dot" indicating an update was available.

By way of background, I purchased my Air which was 5 updates behind. It did offer them one at a time and I sequentially updated without issue. I agree that it is misleading to say "You are up to date" but this is exactly what Windows does on the update screen, then you press Check and find software waiting.

What I want clarity on is whether a user was offered and update, hit Dismiss, but had the update saved and pending signaled by the "white dot". (I do realize that 2.9 was a download-and-install meaning backgrounding as apparently happens on incremental does not happen this time.)

Bear in mind that I said this 'white dot' was a first time thing for me, and I think it was solely tied to Lucid wanting to get a lot of the 2.9.0 downloads to happen via wi-fi. Never before did I receive a request to initiate the DOWNLOAD of an update. Heretofore, this has happened automatically, and the notification requesting that you INSTALL an update only took place after the update had automatically downloaded to the vehicle behind the scenes. I don't think this should be interpreted as a general change of process for Lucid, nor for that matter do I know if the DOWNLOAD initiation request happened to everyone whose vehicles were on wi-fi. In all probably, this was just their attempt to seek a better way to get large updates out there. Given that UX 3.0 is on the horizon, which I imagine is massive, I can see why they would want to do that.

The white dot indicates there is a downloaded update waiting to install. It appears at the same time as you getting a push notification that says it’s ready to install. It has been there since at least 2022.

I’ve never seen a “download” request.
