It's a Radical SR3 XXR. Took a 3 day course, starting with basics in road cars and advancing to governed Radicals, removing the governors in day 2.
I've taken a 3 day at Radford in AZ in Road cars, with lead and follow early on, ending with real racing, albeit passing on straights only.
This class ended with me eligible for a SCCA novice license and practiced side by side racing, requirement for knowledge of flags, ability to exit a car in a certain number of seconds when there is fire, etc.
Totally a blast! The private track with condo garages has opened up the course to a membership option where I have access to the track 4-5 days a week and can drive my own (won't be doing that) or rent any of their road cars (Great cars - see link below to track info) or one of their 4 Radicals.
It's all pricey, but renting is cheaper than buying and maintaining a race car for local races and the Radical offers that open cockpit, tubular frame thrill at a track that is 15 minutes from me. I can't afford to do it every week, but if I can get a 3 hours session in every 3 weeks or so during the season, I'll scratch the itch for thrills and be able to improve my lap times as the season progresses. Think of it as golfing two rounds at Pebble Beach. I'm not a golfer, but I find this wildly fun while I can improve my skills. The record for this track in a Radical is 1:06 and I had a 1:13 (not repetitively) - but, you all know that taking 6 seconds off of 73 seconds is not easy. It could be years before I can get in striking distance of that time, let alone doing it repeatedly. And, at 71, my reflexes will only slow, so I'm on a short time frame for getting close. All good goals!
This year, they have added sessions running counter-clockwise on the track, so once I start feeling like I am improving, I'll reverse the direction and be right back to zero. Too Much Fun!!!
