New Bugs Since 3.5.1

I have a question for the The Forum members. My GGT was in deer vs Gravity incident one month ago and has been in the shop since then. Still awaiting parts. I had zero problems with my GGT at 341 miles when the wreck occurred. I have not updated to 3.5 or any software update since then. Is updating a requirement? I've had none of the problems mentioned here and, if possible, I think that a current software update is unwise. Do I have the choice of NOT updating software?

Not installing a software upgrade within 30 days of its being pushed to your car can void your warranty.

While most software updates seem aimed at UI issues, some might also address issues in powertrain components. Thus, if not installed, Lucid could possibly argue that a powertrain failure was due to a required update not being installed.

Given the cascade of software bugs that 3.5.1 seemed to unleash in our two cars, I certainly understand your reluctance. But I think failing to update could be a serious mistake.

Thanks much! Do you think that it's possible to do a software update long distance. My car is currently at K&M Collision in Hickory, NC and I live in South Carolina. Also, how do I update to 3.5 without my car automatically going to 3.5.1? Thanks again for the help!

As long as you aren’t in Service Mode and you have connectivity, you should be able to update.

There was no 3.5, just 3.5.1

Also, updates include safety improvements and fixes, so you should always keep your car up to date

Again, thanks much! Now, if you know someone at Lucid Motors that can expedite the replacement parts for my GGT, I'll treat you to some some SC BBQ as you travel through SC on the trip to the Blue Ridge Mountains that you mentioned in a previous post!

Remote start (unless in the middle of nowhere with no cell coverage 😂)
Yeah, I get that. Remote start is a worthwhile feature. But it depends on too many factors. For example, if a friend is borrowing my car, then they need to have coverage, I need to have coverage, the car has to have coverage, and I have to be answering my phone so they can ask for help. A lot of the time that'll all be fine. But it's a poor substitute for the fob just having a no-power-required backup built right into it.

I must admit I am using it more and more. I keep the fob in the house and if I need to move the car, I use remote start. As I become more comfortable, I'll pull the keycard from my money clip, not take the fob and use the remote start as a rudimentary PAAK substitute when I go somewhere I know will have cell coverage.

A little more confidence needed, for now, but I see it in my future.

Okay. Another day, another Lucid outing.

We drove the newer Gravity up to Sarasota today to University Mall, an enormous complex with endless parking lots with cars either gridlocked or crawling like ants on a mound. We went to our first store and then backed out of the parking space to move to another store. As we backed out, the Glass Cockpit began to flicker as it had done last week, and the backup camera and the bird's-eye-view went out on the upper and lower displays. There was a car waiting for our space and a line of cars behind it, so I did not attempt a reboot. (I had done a reboot last week for this malfunction, and it did not work, anyway.)

So, after zig-zagging through multiple lanes to find a spot in another part of the mall, we finally found a space that, though tight, we thought would fit. And that's when I discovered how extremely difficult it is to park a Gravity in a tight space without any cameras functioning. I couldn't see the forward curb. I had to back a bit out of the space to straighten up but could not see whether there were any other cars approaching. Finally, my partner had to get out of the car to direct me.

The screens and cameras corrected themselves while we were in the second store and functioned correctly a short while later at a charging stop. But when we got home we found we now had only the back-up camera. The bird's-eye-view display did not come up, and the button on the Pilot Screen to pull it up was dead.

So, as with almost every outing in a Gravity, something went wrong.

Also, we had another old issue return, although not Lucid's fault. We had last tried to use the Electrify America station near University Mall about nine months ago shortly after we got our first Gravity. At the time, the station was down due to the installation of new charging equipment. I have quit even trying to use EA and always go to Tesla Superchargers. But, since we were there, I thought I'd try out the new equipment, as some posters have reported EA has improved of late. There were six charge posts. Five were occupied, but one was free. I backed in, only to find it displaying "Charger Unavailable". As I looked around, I noticed several other EVs sitting in nearby parking spaces waiting their turn. So off we headed to a Supercharger six miles away.

Electrify America has sucked ever since we got our first Lucid four and half years ago. And it still sucks today.

I find comments like this so depressing. Yes, 100% the cameras should work on such an expensive vehicle. But is it really such an ordeal to park a car without cameras? I don't feel particularly super human just because I spent my early driving years parking my parents pinto station wagon, and full size van (with velour curtains!) with no cameras. It's not *that* complicated.

I have a feeling that station wagon had a lot more outward visibility than the hind quarters of a Gravity. Also, I was trying to pull in between a large SUV and a pickup, both of which block your rearward side views as you're trying to back out of a space. The rear view camera of the Lucid is immensely helpful for that, especially in a parking lot crawling with other cars on a busy weekend. (This is typically the most crowded mall I've seen in all my long life. We make the 116-mile drive to it occasionally because it's got the only R.E.I. sporting goods store on the Gulf coast, and we're trying to get outfitted for a trip to Alaska.)

Yeah sure. You could see so well out of this...

And I had no problem parking our 1963 Chevy II station wagon. I mean, like the Pinto, it was just as large as a Gravity.

I guess you caught me. I was lying about the difficulty of parking our Gravity today with no cameras working. It was easy peasy. Don't even know why Lucid bothered to install them.

Again, you're 100% justified in complaining that the cameras aren't working, and they do make things a lot easier. I just get bothered by people trying to make the slightest inconveniences come across like a major ordeal.

If you had anything like the unrelenting cascade of problems we've had with our Gravities since last June, you might actually have some idea of what the hell you're talking about.

Weeks and weeks in Service Centers, multiple mobile tech visits, replaced drive unit (failed on an out-of-state road trip), replaced HUD unit, replaced steering wheel, replaced rear hatch latch, a car delivered with a non-functioning navigation system, and endless software problems. And a 5-day visit from my brother last week without a single day passing without one software problem or another cropping up in one or the other Gravity.

So, yes. I do get bothered now by what you condescendingly call "the slightest inconvenience".

Go buy a Gravity yourself. Then we can talk.

I hear you, but we are in 2026 and these things should work, otherwise we'd be saving money and buying vehicles w/o them. The way the Gravity is designed limits visibility (high window sills, A pillar, etc), so you really rely on the cameras for safe operation. I've had my cameras failed many times (among other issues) and it's an inconvenience, especially for parking and lane changing.

I could cut a hole in the floor and Flinstone my ass down the highway too but I’d rather just have the car work as designed.

Funny, I don't recall commenting on any of your other grievances. As a matter of fact, I was quite careful in my initial reply to quote only the very specific statement I had a problem with.

Over dramatizing the 'ordeal' of parking without cameras undermines the impact of your actual arguments and concerns, which to be clear, I agree are perfectly valid and deserve to be addressed by Lucid, for you and any other customer who experiences them.

It is a NHTSA requirement that rear view cameras operate. It’s that simple. Don’t care if you can back up a double trailer dump truck - it is out of compliance with regulations. And that’s bad.

Actually just looked at my Lucid App. The car is in Service Mode (means that I can't do updates, right?). It said that "Update 3.4 was ready to install." I'm really behind I guess

Thank you... That's really the point!

I don't think you understand the cumulative effect of months and months of software issues, some large and some small. It has a wearing down effect on patience . . . and brand loyalty.

Have you ever heard the phrase "death by a thousand cuts"? I lived through 10 months of Air software issues -- many quite serious -- before UX 2.0 came along and began to set things right. Going through it again with two more Lucids is turning out to be too much and certainly more than I anticipated after all the interviews Lucid gave about how much they learned from the Air and how advanced UX 3.0 was going to be.

I know owners who have fewer problems sometimes bridle at too much complaining about Lucid. But if Lucid thinks this forbearance means they can launch another model before first getting the UI software right, then we're all driving our last Lucids and just don't know it yet.
