USBc max power on ports in Gravity why only 45w on 2nd row ports?

According to https://lucidmotors.com/media/document/OM_Gravity_enUS_v12_2.pdf page 111 it says the front two USBc ports support 100w while the ports on the back of the front seat (for the 2nd row passengers) are only 45w. Given that the 2nd row has a fold down table wouldn't it make sense to have 100w USBc ports on the back of the front seats as one could be using a laptop which would take more than 45w.

I think the intention is to use the 1.5kw household plug if you have the power package, which is a very common configuration.

I find that odd. most (all?) laptops/tablets would be powerable at 100w while many would not be fully powered at 45w. Plus there's only one 120V outlet, and the 120V outlet is not a standard item on the gravity while the USBc ports on the back of the front row seats are standard on the Gravity. Just seems strange to me and so easy to do. Is there a limitation on the capacity of the USBc system the Gravity uses which would preclude another pair of 100W USBc ports?

Umm..these outlets are not standard on Gravity. You opt for the 45W USB -C outlets in the front seat backs when you select an interior option other than the base Mojave Purluxe; any of the Purluxe Premium or leather options get you these outlets, tray tables, massage seats, etc..

You can always run the cable from the front if you need to. Keep in mind that 45W will start charge most laptops, as most people are not mining bitcoin in the backseat of the Gravity. If you're doing heavy (as in heavy usage of the system) work, it may still drain it, but otherwise it will slowly charge.

I also wish they were 100W, but I knew they were 45W going in, and was content with the front ones being 100W since I can run a cable

I believe the idea was that the backseat would be mostly for things like iPads, and those use 20W-ish max.

I mean it's pretty close to effectively standard in practice. It's an $800 option on a $100K car, I haven't seen too many on the site availability without them.

They couldn’t build them with outlets, even without HUD early on, so many of us who have earlier builds but not DE do not have the power outlets. I haven’t missed them at all and carry an inverter in case I really need an outlet (yes, I know it’s more limited than the power package outlets).

If Lucid wants the Gravity to be a replacement for Escalade's and Navigator's in the car services industry (pickups/dropoffs at airports and such) then the 100w behind the front row seats so a person could drop the table and use their laptop while being driven to their destination would be quite valuable.

Newer M series laptops (M3 and M4) come with 140w charging bricks. While the laptops probably aren't pulling 100+ watts of power that often I suspect 45+ watts can be hit frequently.

That is for faster charging, not generally because they cannot be charged lower. During heavy tasks like video encoding, the M5 chip averages roughly 28.4W, a higher draw than the M4 to achieve faster clock speeds.

Can you use more than 45W? Without a doubt. Do most people? No, because most people aren't editing video in the backseat of a Gravity, as I mentioned earlier.

Power consumption goes way up when you start plugging in external devices, like monitors, etc.

But for general usage, it will charge slowly, but fine, on average.

Regardless, it is what it is and they can always run a longer USB-C cable. Perhaps the 2027 will have 100W ports there too.

My wife's new Asus laptop repeatedly complains about slow charging unless it is connected to a PD charger with at least a 28V output spec. This typically means a 140W charger. Even though the laptop doesn't draw that much power, a 20V/3.3 amp charger won't satisfy it.

It pops up a notification in the lower right corner of the screen every minute or so, and the screen flickers off and on when this happens. Like it is trying to renegotiate some hardware thing.

Actually according to pictures on the website in the configurator the USBc ports on the back of the front seats are standard. The fold down tables are not standard unless one upgrades from the standard mojave purluxe (which I didn't realize, we got the tahoe leather so we have the fold out tables)

Pops up and goes away. It still charges fine. Just slower.
