I got the 3.5.1 update installed today. It said about 1hr install, sat at 10% for 30 mins and then was magically installed complete. I did my standard soft reset and took the car for a 30 mi roundtrip drive. So far so good.
Took me a minute to find the icon and get my phone paired or started. Then I used Youtube Music, I still found it easier to go to my phone to search for a favorite playlist, but I did find the sound quality seemed better through Carplay than what I had been doing previously with Youtube music through the Native music app via bluetooth. Then about 5 mins into the drive Carplay randomly disconnected, not sure if my phone did something weird or dropped bluetooth, but I had to unlock it and it automatically reconnected.
Used Google maps and had it search for an Evgo fast charger. Have to say this experience was not all that great. Picked a charge station, I manually pre-conditioned when I was 5 minutes away (obviously the car doesn't know you are going to a charger). Of course no information on the station, so arrived, it was almost full (Chevy Equinox parked plugged in with no charging), and I found an old EvGo post that was 100KW (wasn't going for speed, just the process). Plugged in with the adapter, it errored out the first time since I think I didn't get the adapter fully in. Had to start the charge in the EvGO app as normal.
Would have really liked Carplay last weekend when some freak weather or cloud cover caused the GPS to freak out. Native Nav was stuck in a 'recalculating' loop as it couldn't triangulate my car's position and was convinced I should be driving 15mph through a forest preserve near the highway lol. In that sense would have been great to have Carplay and Waze (I still most prefer its routing logic) as a backup since my phone has better reception.
I did mess with other things, like you can have the native NAV running on the lower screen, and this is actually surprisingly useful that Carplay is on top always, and you can use all the rest of the native UI functions at the same time in the lower screen.
