New software update for Gravity - 3.5

Is there data to see any trends of OTA rollouts? ie DE's first, or location (west coast first), etc. Knowing Lucid's organizational skills it's probably just a random number generator.
From what we know it's random. This question has mystified Lucid owners since the very beginning.

Me when I realized I would have to wait more than a day for 3.5…

I'm not convinced that a random rollout pattern is a bad thing, so the implication that Lucid doesn't have a methodical rollout pattern due to lack of organizational skills could easily be wrong.

I think generally, randomized rollouts are better over time (or mult. deployments) as it uncovers timing bugs and other issues that would otherwise be hidden by sequenced rollouts, like hitting certain timings due to timezones or certain configs like DEs first. But it's also standard practice to roll out to a known set of canary targets for quick feedback as well. In fact, over the weekend I received a survey from Lucid on participating in beta features, likely to create such a cohort of users/owners.

Hi, everyone.

I wanted to share a brief update regarding the 3.5 software release.

Based on early learnings, our software engineers are doing some fine-tuning before we proceed with broader deployment. Once this revision has been completed and validated, we will deploy the release to the wider owner base.

We appreciate your patience and look forward to sharing these new features with you.

Well shoot the gig is up. I was the one that manually entered 3.5.0.
Don’t force me to remove manual updating! Everyone needs to play nice or your toys get taken away 😂

Let's see....They promised it late last week and divulged it needs some fine tuning first on Monday....chill ppl

(If I can wait 'til model year 2027 to get a GGT w/ Car Play you can wait a week or three)

Squash Lucid Squash!

It took them 4 days to communicate this, when they said it was rolling out last Thursday at the Investor Conference? They would’ve been better off not saying anything. It doesn’t inspire confidence if you’re an investor in terms of delivering on the plan, and on time.

I get the frustration. Missing a self-imposed deadline from an Investor Conference isn’t a great look for credibility. But once an official announcement is made, they’re stuck between a rock and a hard place. They likely found a late-stage bug, and with vehicle software, 'shipping it broken' isn't an option. I’d rather a 4-day silence and an improved release than a rushed 3.5.0 that compromises safety.

They can't win for trying. Say nothing and they lose, pass on a delay and they lose. There's just nothing they can do for you all is there? Jeez...

So if I’m reading all the fuss right, Lucid said an update was “coming soon” or would begin to roll out by x date, but then it didn’t.

Okay. Those who say that’s on Lucid for bad communication and expectation setting? Heard. Totally fair.

And for those who say it's better to be a little late, especially if that means it has fewer bugs? I gotta say, I’m with you on that one.

So, to sum up, Lucid needs to:

Be more vague in their communication. (Or to put it nicely, less specific about release dates.)

Keep delaying updates if they find a critical flaw, so that we all don’t end up with another round of bad experience.

I think all of us would agree that’s better than announcing specific launch dates and then hitting them no matter what the condition of the software. Right? Right?

For those of us who have been here a while, we all know they’ve done that one or two times with not so great results. So I say this is a step in the right direction. The software team did the right thing. Let’s celebrate that. Even if some issues arose in the communication process.

(Also, I will add it’s really cool that so many people are anxious to get CarPlay / Android Auto. I remember waiting for that for my Air, and I was on the edge of my seat for it, too. It will be awesome once you get it, I promise. Took away most of what bothered me about my Air’s infotainment.)

I'm totally good with the delay - communication could have been sooner, but perhaps Lucid learned something from the forum; I'll take this as a win!

Sadly, probably not.

I understand, and completely agree with you it shouldn’t ship broken. But, if it wasn’t ready to ship a communication should’ve been made the next day, not four days later. When the CEO announced it as “rolling out today” to investors and analysts in that room in NYC last week, it needs to happen. This doesn’t help interim CEO Mark Winterhoff’s or Lucid’s credibility with the investing public, or owners. I am not an investor, but would consider investing (after the next dilution event) if I felt Lucid could deliver on their timelines & plan, because I believe so strongly in the potential of the product.

The delay in Gravity deliveries this summer followed by all the software snafus this fall were very public. Lucid needs to string together a series of wins on what it can control, software being one of them. Otherwise people start to believe “you are what your record says you are”, to use a Bill Parcells quote. I’m sure everyone at Lucid is burning the midnight oil (thank you), and the last software update was a HUGE WIN. It fixed many problems, and made the car much more drive-able. So, great job team. That’s why I was so excited and enthusiastic about getting the next update, and racking up another “win” with further software fixes & refinements and promised Apple CarPlay/Adroid Auto.

This is my first new car in 20 years. I love my Gravity. It’s the best car I’ve ever driven. I’ve been fortunate to have fewer problems compared to many owners on this board, so I will count my blessings and be more patient going forward.

I’m going to forget about this software update, fly to San Diego tomorrow, spend a week in 80 degree weather, and maybe it will ready when I get back next Wednesday. But, I’m not lie, this has dashed some of my enthusiasm.

It’s going to be in the 90s here in San Diego this week! As a Lucid old timer, I can tell you that they are not the best with exactly meeting their self-imposed deadlines. I wish they would be better, and I find it frustrating. But sometimes we just need to step back and wait a week or two.

Having to pull a software release after shipping it to some owners is bad enough, but watching some of the investor day presentation for which this release was purportedly timed, it puts what was said there in some better context. For instances, this from the deck:

And this from the presentation:
(cued to the question on software challenges, and ensuring this doesn't happen again)

"our evolution in addressing some of these concerns has been super positive." Oops.

Again.
